baez plainly just guessing

Yeah, he was expecting outside the whole way and he came right at him on strike 3.

I suppose if you wanted to look at that AB with an optimistic approach you could say that it shows he understand how pitchers have been pitching to him and he was anticipating an outside breaking pitch to lay off of instead of swinging wildly at it, so he's trying to make adjustments.

Or it's just Baez being Baez.

Who did the O's give up to get Adam Jones?

Erik Bedard

Thanks - I knew it was Seattle just couldn't recall

They also got Chris Tillman, who has been a solid starter for 3 years now, and George Sherrill, who served as a useful reliever for a couple of seasons. The Mariners were widely criticized for giving up too much and, lo and behold, they ended up giving up too much.

Yes, Bill Bavasi was an awful GM.

top-50 for pitcher RA9-WAR since hitting the bigs in '12, ahead of guys like Samardzija, Ervin Santana, CJ Wilson

With his WHIP and OPS against, he is the anti Jaxon. His FIP has to be like 2 runs higher than his ERA.

What was that huge OOH during the national anthem?

Probably something Orioles fans do

It was started when the O's were playing in Memorial Stadium in Balmer. There was this cab driver named Wild Bill Hagy who used to sit in the upper deck down right field. He was a pretty rugged character and yelled stuff all game. He led them in 'O' during the anthem and then later on would try to spell out 'Orioles' using his arms and legs. The O's used to play 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' by John Denver during the 7th inning stretch. Hagy would dance on the O's dugout and then do the 'Orioles' act. Hagy's gone and I don't know if they still do John Denver.

HR generosity

bases empty: 1.67 HR/9

men on base: 0.83 HR/9

FIP assumes those rates to be similar
