Not sure I would have even given up De Paula for Headley at this point. This trade is pretty much a complete nonfactor in the AL East race.

I remember when we were trying to get Headley after his 2012 season, where he had a .937 OPS on the road. He was a freaking 6.3 WAR player that year and finished 5th in MVP balloting. Strangely enough, he's actually had worse numbers on the road than at Petco the last 2 seasons.

I have no ability to understand what has happened to Headley. Is it just his back? He's been playing better the last 30 days since he received an epidural.

While DePaula is ... intriguing enough, I'm not a big enough fan to think that giving him up is some sort of bad deal. That said, Headley wasn't going to get much now. Overall, I think it sort of works for both sides - a good gamble for the Yankees for one year without giving up any key long term asset, a decent enough arm with upside for the Padres for a declining, costly player.
