if the ball is dead when he flips into the dugout why should anyone be able to advance a base. seriously, wtf

 

I still think it's dumb as a blanket rule, but:

 

@LenKasper: The rule works for this reason--eliminates intentionally going out of play as defender to "kill" play. Base is given to runners as result

 

What's the actual rule? I wanted to show it to a friend I was discussing it with today.
