I like Umberger, but he started crying about healthy scratches at the end of last season. Plus he's a ~$4.5 million cap hit the next three seasons.

Stasny's a good pick up. The Central is getting better and the Hawks are just struggling to keep status quo.

stastsny is good, but 7m a year seems high for him. i still think st. louis should be focusing on adding offensive playmakers. they have a ton of these great 2-way grinders and nobody to finish in the playoffs

In all seriousness, some of these deals are going to make it tough to keep everybody together. Toews and Kane deserve way more than guys like Stastny and Bolland. I don't see any way you can pay them near market value and keep guys like Sharp, Seabs, Hossa, etc.

I think it's pretty clear that the NHL model is set-up in a way that benefits the second tier of free agents. The elites will probably never get what they "deserve" based solely on the "we need room under the cap" idea. They will not get the multiple they deserve over that type of player just because the teams that don't have elites feel the need to pay whatever is necessary to get whatever upgrade they can find.

Blue Jackets lost a bunch of 3rd/4th liners today. My fear is that they want to be the youngest team in the league for the same of being he youngest. Outside of the Hartnell trade, every move has been about shedding 30+ players.

 

They've made no indication that they'll spend money, either, so I don't see a ton of improvement for next year

lol, yes very sad that the difference in viewership between these two things was less than one percent of the population of the us
