He had good rate stats even when he was giving up a ton of runs earlier in the season.

Yeah, but that was in part because his K rate was being inflated by facing 8 batters per inning or whatever.

Wait, how does your K rate get inflated by facing more batters?

K is generally reported as K/9 rather than K%. You can have vastly different K% and end up with the same K/9

Well that makes sense, why didn't you say K/9 in the first place?

RT @JordanBernfield: Source tells me #Cubs 1st round pick Kyle Schwarber called up to Kane County from Boise.

And confirmed by the beat writers on Twitter.

Nice! Get to see him on Daddy/Daughter princess night on Friday!

@BerniePleskoff: Nice matchup: #Marlins Justin Nicolino vs. #Cubs Kris Bryant. Nicolino wins as Bryant flies out to deep center. Nicolino smooth lefty.

Daytona manager Dave Keller was ejected in the top of the first inning by home plate umpire Scott Costello, who was in the middle of a couple of controversial calls during the game, one of which ended the contest and sparked a heated argument.

The final out came when Costello ruled a pop foul that numerous people — including batter Bijan Rademacher, a bat boy and a photographer on the field — saw bounce off a padded railing before Tampa catcher Wes Wilson hauled it in.

Daytona hitting coach Mariano Duncan argued the call, and Costello consulted with base umpire Brennan Miller, who agreed with his partner.

The argument appeared to end when the umpires started walking away toward the clubhouse at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, but they turned back toward Duncan. That's when the argument escalated and contact was made between Duncan and Miller. When they separated, Miller could be seen pointing at Duncan, who declined to comment about the incident after the game.

I saw an article the other day that compared him to Pedro Alvarez. That may be about right.

Somewhere between Alvarez and Carlos Gomez is what I'm thinking one of his better outcomes is going to be.

Good call. I think Baez is significantly faster than Alvarez, but not quite as fast as Gomez. That should help with BABIP, so he doesn't hit as low as Alvarez's career .235 thus far.
