you know what grinds my gears, that miami is better than us every year regardless of context for either team. also that somewhere ozzie guillen is laughing his ass off right now

Honestly, when do Tom, Theo and Jed call a presser to apologize to Cubs fans for this absolute garbage product that they have put on the field for 3 straight seasons now? When do they say we are offering discounted tickets for all seats until we at least put a COMPETITIVE team on the field?

The last 3 seasons have been ridiculously bad without a shred of competitiveness.

Dead ass team. Only 12 total hits in these 3 games against this very mediocre Sox pitching staff?

I actually think the effort is there. especially when compared to last years team you can see they're trying. the skill...the talent, thats whats not there. "dead ass team" is conjecture and not correct. its not their fault they suck. you could argue that you'd like to see more improvement, but there HAS been improvement from the players that actually matter.

the team isn't dead, they just suck. If they were more "alive" they'd still be horrible.

How did they hit well against a talented Cardinals pitching staff and then look like they are laying down against a mediocre Sox staff? Sun shine on a dog's ass once in a while?

You just described bad baseball teams perfectly.

obligatory sample size comment

I asked the same question but it was just out of frustration, I dont think they ate their wheaties before the cardinals series and forgot to before the sox

what does frustrate me is continued playing time given to players that dont matter under the guise of "setting up the other young players for sucess". give me a break, their will was broken the second they joined this team

They are basking in the glory. We should be thanking them. This is The Right Way.

Why would they when 27,000 people go to Wrigley a game?

Well, pretty soon it will be 15,000. There is zero buzz with this team. Actually, it's less than zero. Sooner or later the fans are going to demand answers as to why this team can't even compete in the process of the: "rebuild". God help them if the kids don't pan out.

No there won't, people will always go to Wrigley no matter how bad the team is.

I don't know if I'd go that far......attendance has been on a steady decline for years. And if anything necessitates changes in this country, its losing money. There has been this assumption by ownership that "once we're good again" all the numbers would return back to normal, I just don't think I totally agree with that.

There seems to be a floor for the moment at around 20k-21k season tickets sold.

I feel like the Indians are a good comparison here. During the late 90s and the time Jacobs Field was built, they were a winning team and sold out every single game. That is just not true anymore, and thats considering they were a playoff team last year. The fan base was irrecoverably hurt. I realize we're the Cubs and everything is a bit different with us but man, your typical meatball fan is PISSED, and those meatball fans money spends just like ours does.

The Chicago metro area has 7 million plus more people than Cleveland, and the ballpark is a destination for tourists.

EDIT: Not super relevant to that point, but their sell out streak was a sham.

Right. Wrigley will always be a destination. Whether that's bad or good I'm not so sure about anymore.

Low attendance was 20,696 last year. They may have upped the season ticket base, but knowing how long they hounded me to re-up after the deadline, and seeing multiple people on here get hounded in the same way(even after turning them down in 2013) makes me think the base is less than 20K

ETA: For weekday games at least. Nights and Weekends could easily be 20K+
