Baez with two 5 pitch outs so far. I can't tell if that's progress for him or not...

How were the outs made?

Javy with a lazy error, backhanding a ball that he could have easily rounded on, forcing him to try to plant and throw, which pulled the throw high.

Hannemann is 2 for 2 with a SB

Villanueva has a double and a K

I like to see Hannemann stealing a lot. He's gotten 5 singles and a walk this season, and has stolen 4 bases. Would be nice to have a "speed" guy who really could steal successfully both a high percentage but also a high volume of times. A guy who's so good at it that he doesn't need a perfect jump or a dangerously big lead or a slow-delivery pitcher or a bad catcher or a perfect situation in order to have good odds. But who can just routinely run on anybody without being at much risk of getting picked off.

Concepcion pitched a scoreless inning without a walk. The universe is beginning to collapse in upon itself.

I can go like one more week of Javy hitting .059 before I can't say it's no big deal anymore.

K's in the 9th to make it 0-for-4 with 2 Ks.

Whiffed hopelessly out in front of a breaking ball. AAA pitchers are just abusing him with offspeed stuff, and he'll need to adjust.

Conception went 3 scoreless with 1 H and 3 K with no walks. WUT

Also, I'm totally on the Hannemann bandwagon.

small sample size, but right now he strikes out too much for someone without a whole lot of power.

aaaaand he's gonna turn 23 in a few weeks.

i don't care about that. he missed two years because of his mission, so he's only played one year of college ball. really, playing full season minor league with just one year of post-high school ball under his belt is quite reasonable. most college draftees have played three years of college baseball plus short-season in their draft year before moving up to Low-A.

Hannemann and Baez have combined for less than 40 PAs so far. We're still in "be happy when good things happen and reserve judgment on actually interpreting results" mode for several weeks.

@KevinDruley: Cougars mgr Mark Johnson said Tseng had "electric stuff." He spotted fastball well when it took him awhile to get a feel for breaking ball

@KevinDruley: Tseng started developing cut in right, throwing thumb late in start; 5th was going to be last inning, anyway #Cubs

I'm confident he will adjust. He's in school right now.
