Doesn't get talked about alot. Probably the least talked about of the 4 players we got in the Garza deal. But i think he could be a REALLY nice bullpen piece. Seems like he's been good all spring (i realize that doesnt mean much), but the kid seems to have a lively arm and misses bats. Will definitely be tracking his progresa closely.

I thought most people here thought Ramirez was the best player in that deal.

I'm pretty sure you're just confusing him with CJ.

The Garza trade will go down as an all time steal.

Jon Daniels: Garza trade could 'haunt me'

"I thought way too short-term with the Garza deal last year," Daniels told Zach Buchanan of the Arizona Republic. "That one's got a chance to haunt us and haunt me."

With Olt looking fixed, I would be starting to feel guilty about that trade if we weren't the Cubs.

Even if his eye issues are in fact fixed, we still don't know that he can actually hit major league pitching often enough to be productive. I'm excited to find out but that situation is far from settled.

That said, CJ alone makes the trade a win IMO...so you can imagine what the rest of those guys turning into things would mean.

Way too early to be gloating about a trade when none of the guys we got apart from Grimm (and that was garbage time) has played an inning where it counts. It can safely be said Theo did very well under the circumstances, and that it was a smart trade from our perspective. Whether it will haunt anybody or anyone got a "steal" is strictly conjecture.

As for Ramirez, I've liked him better than Grimm from the beginning and he's certainly been one of the Cubs' best pitchers in Arizona. But I'd keep him as a starter until he proves he can't be effective in that role. My hope is that he didn't go North with the big club because they intend to stretch him out and have him starting at Iowa.

We traded a guy who wasn't going to play for us after two months when we were like 40-70 and had no playoff aspirations. The fact that we got two guys who have a chance to be above average, if not fantastic franchise cornerstones, MLB starters in Olt and Edwards and two other guys who could be quality role players in Grimm and Ramirez is why the trade is phenomenal. It can be all potential and possibilities and still be seen that way, even if it doesn't work out. I mean what are the odds none of the four become useful? (Essentially zero). What were the odds that Garza was going to become useful to the cubs? (Essentially zero)

we can gloat about the trade right now, even if all four guys make zero impact at the major league level, because the cubs could package edwards, olt, ramirez and grimm tomorrow and get a significantly better return than 2 months of matt garza.

As Samardzija starts opener, keep in mind #Cubs’ haul for Garza: Olt and Grimm made club, Ramirez could have, Edwards best player in deal.

Ramirez for #Cubs this spring: IP 7 2/3, H 2, R 0, BB 0, K 11. Edwards will open at AA. #Rangers nothing to show for Garza, not even pick.

I know this has been said a million times, but great job by Jed and Theo on that one. The Dempster trade was also well played. They are smart about finding trade partners with either multiple ML-ready redundancies (Rangers) or high-ceiling but allegedly damaged assets (Braves).

Does Ramirez project as capping-out as a 4th starter?

He's had arm issues so I haven't expected much other than to hope for a couple years of a hard throwing reliever.
