I still want Colt Lyerla on this roster. He's still unsigned.

And in response to the Emery hipster pick, I just think the draft was good until the QB/Punter picks. This team has other pressing needs and is in a 'win now' mode. TE,WR,S,LB all would have been better picks then a QB who we hope will never see the field and a buff punter

Why win now mode? Offense has potential to be together for the most part of the next 4-5 years. Defense is younger than last year and could have some building blocks. I don't want Emery drafting as if this team has to win now or dismantle.

I have no complaints. Getting Ego in the 2nd with apparently a Tank Johnson ceiling wasn't that exciting but I won't nitpick about solidifying a DT rotation that if healthy would have been below average at best. Sutton and Vereen appear to be absolute steals. And I'm actually relieved we have a punter, whether we could have waited or not.

after Evan Rodriguez, i think we're a bit gun-shy on potential embarrassments.

Really don't like much of anything that I've seen about Ego Ferguson. The little video I've seen is sketchy at best. He doesn't really clog much of anything, gets pushed around a lot. For a run stuffer what I saw didn't look impressive. And absolutely no pass rush potential at all. Just an awful lot of negatives associated with his game to spend that 2nd rounder.

I would rather have just taken a chance on Nix's knee, and transition to the 4-3 defense. I like his talent and ceiling much, much better. I know the Bears weren't the only team to pass on Nix. At the end of the day I would feel much more comfortable knowing we had Nix & Sutton coming on board, than Ego & Sutton.

I hope I'm dead wrong on this, and Ego develops into a solid player. If anyone here watched a lot of LSU football and wants to shoot me down, by all means please do.

I can't disagree with much of this. I think he can clog some. He had a pretty high tackle total for an interior DL. But I got bored watching video of him. He's completely a "meh" player.

lol, Mike North...

The article itself is kind of uncharacteristically modest by North's standards. He's actually careful to qualify his stuff rather than just going balls-out like he usually does.

I forgot his whole Janikowski thing, LOL.

What I do remember is his months-long rant against the firing of Dick Jauron.

They met with Nix a few times and had a chance to pick him three times (legitimately probably only two times in rounds 2 and 3) and passed on him. I'm guessing they didn't like his knee and hopeful they weren't one of those teams put off by his tweeting.

He looks like a football player so this seems like an old timey scout pick. While he has no stand out measurable the total package certainly indicates this is a pick about potential. Basically have to hope he can be taught to be a football player. Sutton on the other hand is the opposite, so it will be interesting to track the progress of each.

The Bears signed running back Ka'Deem Carey, the first of their two fourth-round picks, to a four-year contract Tuesday, the team announced.

Carey is expected to help back up Pro Bowler Matt Forte. The reigning Pac 12 Offensive Player of the Year is known for being difficult to tackle and for exploiting running lanes with his vision. He averaged 5.4 yards and had 19 touchdowns on 349 carries at Arizona last season.

Carey is the fourth player in the Bears' eight-player draft class to sign, joining fourth-round safety Brock Vereen, sixth-round quarterback David Fales and seventh-round left tackle Charles Leno.

349 carries....seem like a lot for a college player, no?

It's on the high end, and I think pretty similar to Forte's last year in school.

David Haugh ‏@DavidHaugh 14m

Of the two defensive tackles the Bears drafted, Angelo thinks Will Sutton has a higher "ceiling" than Ego Ferguson. Interesting.

Why does Haugh think this is interesting? I thought this was a widely shared opinion.
