So some people hate this pick because he is too safe and will be only a consistent starter and not a star and others hate it because he's not gonna start this year (though he really might)

Figures. When the haters can't agree it was probably a good pick

It's weird because this is the first time the Bears have taken exactly who I wanted. Fuller's probably my second favorite high round pick in the last five years besides Alshon Jeffery (good call) and just ahead of the Gabe Carimi pick (whoops).

Sell me on him. I know nothing about him beyond what I've heard in the last 12 hours or so.

That was how I felt about Bryant last year. I can't remember but I think David Terrell may be the last time that happened for me with the Bears.

Technically sound physical corner who can play outside or slot. Great instincts at the position, good body control (compared to the other very physical 1st round CB Dennard, Fuller doesn't grab excessively), good run stopper and blitzer. Very versatile, playing a little rush OLB and FS in college too. He doesn't have Gilbert's speed or athleticism but I don't think he needs to have the elite speed to be a top CB in the NFL. I believe some are worried about his size and frame too.

ETA: Dude just stood out on the field against Alabama and that's impressive because a) considering the athletes and stars Alabama has and b) Virginia Tech had a great defense.

Last one for me might be Cade McNown. I was like 12 though. Fuller is like Carimi for me- liked the pick but was somewhat indifferent if they had gone another direction based on what else was there.

I really wanted Culpepper or McNabb that year. Was hoping we might trade up for Donovan.

Yeah, good call on Bryant. I was big on Rose though I think by draft day, the Rose vs Beasley debate was not much of a debate.

Thanks. Seems like he can do a little of everything well. How is he as far as ball hawking skills?

He only had 2 picks in each of his sophomore, junior and senior years. Not great hands and has dropped a few picks, but he does seem to position himself to get them, at least.

Oh good call I did like that one as well.

It is a little sad how between the Cutler trade, a couple botched OL picks and the trade of Olsen we really had a drought of top prospect picks to be excited about.

Biggs said on the radio that he thinks that the Bears believe that Conte can have a better year and says it's a mistake to write him off.

Adam Hoge has been posting Vines on his Twitter feed of individual plays by Fuller last season. Well worth a check if you're interested.

Its a mistake to write him off but also a mistake to not have a better contingency than we currently have.

Someone like Brooks in the second would be a reach talent wise, but we should definitely look for a 3rd or 4th round prospect that could step in if needed. It's not totally uncommon to find replacement level S play late- you'll have to accept some type of flaw. But the concern is Conte not making it back to his replacement level play of 11/12.

I suppose they figure Fuller could be the contingency, but I don't really like starting his career at S if they think he's a CB long term.

I wonder what the price tag is on Eric Berry if he's truly available in a trade.

I know it's been posted a bunch about getting around the Trib's pay wall but is there an easy way on my phone as well? I never seem to get around it there.

I always just do a google search for the actual headlines and the links always seem to work from there.

Thanks, this just worked for me.

Given previous statements about how many teams are going to have to let go of additional players, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Bears pick up a starting safety that way.

I like the Fuller pick, fwiw.
