The mistake was bringing him in here in the first place. Was there really no one better?

I don't think this way at all. He was a solid hire at the time. Lots of people and personalities alike approved of it.

I think you need to have success at something before you get a promotion. Coming to the Bears is a slight promotion even if his title didn't change. His Jags defenses were only good in for one year in 2011.

Yeah it absolutely wasn't a promotion.

Tucker has got to be fired IMO. He's done nothing to provide a glimpse of success or player development

Press conference with Trestman and Emery is at 9:30. Should find out one way or the other about Tucker.

Instead of another obvious retread from the NFL's coaching ranks, Trestman was an outside-the-box addition who brought a new way of doing things. The coach's positive work with the Bears offense was obvious from the earliest moments of the preseason, but, as quarterback Jay Cutler said during training camp, "Not everybody's bought in."

The Chicago Sun-Times noted Tuesday that, at season's end, the same theme lingers.

"(Trestman's) different," linebacker Blake Costanzo said of the transition from Lovie Smith. "He's a different kind of a guy. He does things differently. It is what it is. Some guys gravitated towards it. Some guys, maybe, it takes longer. But he's just different. I guess it takes a little while to kind of get his way of doing things under wraps here."

Asked if some players struggled to adapt to Trestman's approach, Costanzo said: "Yeah, I mean you can't reach everyone as a head coach."

"It is what it is," Costanzo told the newspaper. "I definitely think that we could have achieved a lot more this season and I know we're all disappointed in it, especially with the locker room that we had and the players that we had. He can't get better players than we have in this locker room, so we're upset. We underachieved, man. It's as simple as that. And obviously this locker room is going to be different next year. Hopefully, everyone can move on and have a better year next year."

Uhhhh, Blake may not have meant it but this statement translates to "Trestman didn't get the job done with all the talent he had available to him."

That entire quote rubs me the wrong way. Costanzo should be happy just to be on an NFL roster. I don't want to hear a marginal player like that talk about how Trestman's coaching style is difficult, or some people didn't buy in, or whatever. If he doesn't like it, he can find the door.

And the statement you highlighted is idiotic, obviously. It tells me two things: he's stupid, and he talks too much.

I don't think that Blake thought through what he was saying throughout that whole segment.

Yes. IMO, if they don't announce his firing today, then he'll be back.

I think it's safe to say that if they don't announce his firing today, they'll definitively announce that he's returning. Shouldn't be a question after this PC.

True -- going to be too many questions about it.

Lovie Smith was loved by the locker room, so it's no surprise a lot of players didn't immediately gravitate towards Trestman (especially defensive players). At this point, though, I'd find it hard to believe that any offensive player is at all upset with the coaching change given the offensive success this year. And the entire defense is expendable, so Emery shouldn't feel bad cutting anyone that doesn't buy into Trestman's philosophy.

Do we know pretty definitively about other possible coaching terminations? The only possible thing that makes me think they could drag it out is if they are content with Tucker for now but would dump him for a specific coach who's fate is still in the air. I don't think that's Emery's style, but you never know.
