MNF sucks, the Monday aspect of it, the Night aspect, and the people involved in broadcasting it.

Agreed. Maybe, maybe I could get excited for MNF if it was still the best matchup of the week, but why wait an extra day, and watch a late game between the Cardinals and Raiders or something.

Maybe they are making it Cardinals/Raiders matchups because such a large percentage of the fan base is sleeping by halftime.

I don't like ESPN, or Gruden, but my biggest problem with MNF is that it's on Monday nights. Football is best on Sundays. Thursdays are ok, because it's early, but Sunday night should be the end of the football week.

Mondays at work are a little less painful knowing there's football on at night (especially when the Bears are playing), but that's just me.

Same. I love more days with football.

Nobody is forcing you to watch it and it's not like there's time for an additional nationally televised game on Sunday.

Why wouldn't you want more games available to watch?

Also, Cardinals/Raiders is more like a Thursday night type matchup.

I'm far more interested in my fantasy team than a random NFL game, so I'd get a lot more benefit out of Sunday being an all-inclusive experience where I get an actual outcome rather than waiting another 24 hours to find out results of a game I don't care enough about to watch.

I guess. I'm into fantasy quite a bit but I'd much rather have a game to look forward to watching on Monday nights. Monday nights suck and winter sucks. Monday nights in winter without football would really really suck.

I will say this... the MNF schedule seems to be substantially worse this year. I remember the Bears couldn't buy a MNF game when they sucked for years. Now Oakland, NYJ, St. Louis, Miami, etc get Monday night games?

Did they actually add more decent games to Thursday night this year or something?

Let's see...

Nope. Still looks pretty bad.

What does "forcing you to watch" have to do with anything? If I want to watch the Bears and they are on MNF, I am forced to watch, otherwise I don't watch it at all, because it sucks.

Yeah, I'm not complaining that I'm forced to watch...though I sometimes do for fantasy purposes...and even then, it's usually just checking in. I'm complaining that it's bad football at a bad time on a bad night with bad announcing. It's basically the worst the NFL has to offer.

I don't know how the heck we wind up with a terrible matchup so often on MNF, but alas, it's true. Can't deny that.

Sunday night is the featured game now like Mondays used to be. That changed when NBC took over Sundays and ESPN got Mondays. I think they made that move because Monday ratings had dropped off regardless of the quality of the game that was on.

I know that. But MNF wasn't this bad. And SNF wasn't this bad pre-06 when it was the secondary prime time game (at least, not as far as I remember).

I'm just saying that there have to be at least 2-3 somewhat compelling matchups every week, at least to the point that the 2013 Dolphins should never see a national broadcast.

If it's about the Bears being on, I understand the complaining (even though I love when the Bears are on MNF). Otherwise, I have no idea why anyone would bitch about there being another game available to watch on another night.

Are you paying attention to anything people are saying in their complaints about MNF?

It's fairly torturous to watch. It is far less enjoyable than watching football on Sunday. I would rather have more 4pm Sunday games than Monday night.

In addition to MNF just sucking balls for a variety of already stated reasons, I enjoy my 8-hour window of drunken football viewing 17 Sundays a year, and don't have another 4 to give on Monday. Monday night is for catching up on whatever Sunday night television awesomeness I was too drunk to watch with the wife Sunday night.

Yes, I'm paying attention and, beyond fantasy reasons and waiting longer for their own team's games, have no idea why people would prefer fewer national broadcasts to watch and more games on at the same time so they can't watch them all.

I also don't understand why a football fan wouldn't want to watch another game on the crappiest night of the week, but that's a separate conversation. I'll pretty much watch any game, especially if there are fantasy implications.

I love Monday night games. Of course, they are on at a reasonable time where I live, so I can understand if my opinion isn't as popular. What I don't like is only two Sunday afternoon games this week. That's just silly to have 10 "morning" games and 2 afternoon games.

If I was on the West Coast I'd like MNF more for this reason, the time is so much better there than CST/EST. Most of the time I'm sleeping by halftime or early 3rd quarter of MNF games.

Yeah, no issues here on the West Coast. You get home from work in time for the game and it's over at 9 PM. And it's another day of football and an extra game that I probably wouldn't have watched otherwise since it likely would have blended into the mass of games on Sunday.

Well I think MNF gets the 3rd choice every week, after SNF and whoever has the CBS/Fox doubleheaders 3pm premier game. Then you have to factor in schedules and regulations. I think teams can only be on prime time games 5 times a season and I believe every team plays on Thursday at least once (bc I believe each team can only play on Thursday once a year sans thanksgiving). So that leaves 4 appearances per year for the teams. I'm not sure if they go week by week and say "SNF who do you want? Now Fox, now MNF" or if SNF selects all their games for the season first, then fox/CBS goes, then MNF picks what's left but if that's the case I'm guessing MNF doesn't have great choices left.

Yeah, I'm not sure how it works but that seems like a reasonable guess. Also SNF gets the ability to swap games in and out starting in like week 13, right?

Well, part of the problem, and part of the reason they moved the prime matchup to Sunday night, is that you can't flex MNF. TNF has the same issue. They pick all of those games at the beginning of the year and go with it. They don't want teams to have to change travel plans, and preparation schedules by switching Monday games to Sunday, and vice versa. SNF and the 3pm games don't have that issue. They can flex those as the season goes on with little impact.
