Congratulations to Kane County on becoming the most interesting team in the system. It's close, but Almora's two walks and Pierce Johnson's start tonight pulls it out for them.

Daytona's 1-2 punch of Baez and Soler is the best we have, but it's hard to argue against KC in terms of depth.

Make that two walks.

His up to the minute line:

69 PAs, 274/348/452

10.1% BB, 13.0% K

I know it's not normalized over that few PA, but how's the BABIP?

Didn't see it posted... Baez ended up 2/4 with no K's. Soler 1/3 with a walk and a K.

Today's extended spring training game and yesterday's intrasquad game: http://www.thecubreporter.com/05242013/garvey-three-run-bomb-propels-rockies-win-over-cubs-fitch-park

Armando Rivero made his debut in yesterday's intrasquad group.

25-year old lanky 6'3 Cuban RHP Armando Rivero saw his first EXST game action in the intrasquad game, and allowed one run on one hit (a single) and two walks. He retired only one batter, and was relieved after throwing 19 pitches (only ten strikes). A former closer for Industriales in Serie Nacional (the Cuban major league), Rivero was signed by the Cubs ($3.1M bonus) this past March after defecting to the Dominican Republic (and then migrating to Haiti) last year.

So... is #2 SP considered a TOR guy? As much I love Appel, I still don't see him as a bonafide #1 ace. His stuff is still too "hit-able". He did make a jump this year in K/9, but I wanna see what it'll be in AA or even AAA before he gets to MLB. I def. would put Soler over him right now and possibly Almora/Baez as well depending on how I feel about potential upside that day. Some days I would put Appel #4 (if Cubs did get him in the draft) and some days #2, but Soler is #1 for me right now.

Did we know about this guy, or was it a total ninja move? First I've heard of him, I feel that a $3.1M bonus guy would have had more press.

While Rock Shoulders seems to be mired in a month long slump, I have to like the fact that he's still managing to keep up his OBP; a lot of guys his age might be flailing at everything they see in order to break out of it.

I'd lean toward Appel ahead of Soler, but either way is pretty defensible.

I think Soler's walk rate has got to be about 10% now. That's just studly.

11.0%, to a 14.6% K rate.

Appel's ceiling is a #1 pitcher.

Vitters actually ended up with 2 walks on the evening. Niceeeeee

Sporting a 10% walk rate (admittedly only 70 PA).

Hopefully he's made an adjustment and trying to take more walks/be more selective and it's not just sss.
