Can't blame Bernier for trying to draw Crow into doing something dumb there. He's just lucky Emery wasn't playing.

A playoff goalie fight would be a little over the top. Were the Detroit-Colorado brawls in the playoffs?

They started with a cheap shot in the playoffs. The main brawl was in the next regular season, but there was another mini brawl in that ensuing playoffs.

Clifford took his stick and swung it down on Rozsival's back. That's what drew Toews in.

Whatever, we're not innocent in this either, but it's the playoffs. You do what you can get away with. And when you have Dustin Brown as your captain, you have no room to complain.

Anyone have video of this scuffle?

Thanks. I was searching "scuffle" not "scrum".

That Ilyn Payne ish cannot stand

How is that not a double minor? Unsportsmanlike, slashing, or cross checking, take your pick.

How does Toews get a roughing minor but Crawford doesn't?

Goalies always get the leeway.

I'm thinking the ref may have just given the roughing that Crawford would've had to Toews instead, feeling like a penalty had to be handed out, but not wanting to penalize the goalie.

Although I suppose it doesn't much matter. Someone would've served the penalty for Crawford anyway, right?

Yes, but they could have put Kane or another non PK guy to serve the minor instead of Toews who is one of the most important PK guys on the team. It wound up not mattering but still.

Hawks agree to terms with Antti Raanta.

http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/2013/6/3/4391658/antti-raanta-free-agency-blackhawks

Raanta had a sensational year in Finland. He took home the MVP, Best Goalies Honors, and also won the Jarri Kurri Trophy ( similar to the NHL's Con Smythe Award). He posted a 21-10-11 record with a 1.85 goals against average and a .943 save percentage. His performance in the playoffs were even more impressive, Recording a great 1.45 goals against average and a .955 save percentage.

Antti Raanta has showed a lot of promise at age 24

Apparently popular opinion was that it was between The Columbus Bluejackets, Edmonton Oilers, and The Minnesota Wild....guess not.

Interesting timing to announce a goalie signing.

Also, lower center, just below chin strap beard guy. Drunk middle aged woman, or drunkest middle aged woman?

Apparently the signing had occurred several days ago, but they've been trying to keep it under wraps because they didn't want to announce during the conference finals. Sounds like they couldn't keep a wraps on it.

She looks a bit like Jane Lynch.

I'm guessing this is Crawford's replacement when another team insanely overpays for Crawford?

More like Emery's replacement after someone does the same. Of course, if they follow the Detroit model of not paying goalies then maybe he's his eventual successor.

Yeah, Crawford is 28..he'll be 29 by the time he's a UFA. I could see the Hawks going the cheaper route rather than paying Crawford.

Well, the Blackhawks have pretty much made it clear they won't be paying for non-elite goaltenders. And I don't see anybody giving a resurgent Emery an insane contract next year. This sounds like a guy who will compete for a back-up role next year and have a great shot as a starter in 2014/15.

Trying to think of which teams need starting goalies.

Calgary

Columbus- if Bobrovsky jumps to the KHL

Minnesota- if Backstrom can get a deal elsewhere

Florida- if they don't get Borat from the Canucks

Buffalo- if they can find a taker for Miller

Philly- aren't they always?

Devils- Broduer can't play forever

There's some big ifs there

Detroit gave Howard a nice extension. They had no obvious replacement though.

We can't afford to give Crow more than $3-4M/year, especially as long as Sharp and Hossa are around.
