I just wish Hossa didn't take that dumb [expletive] penalty towards the end. Then we would have won by 2 goals and this crying over the penalty shot would have been even more pointless.

Also inexcusable was how Oduya didn't know it was even strength and iced the puck.

It was pretty hysterical though, that they actually caught him on camera saying, "It was 4 on 4?", and didn't just have to speculate that he was unaware.

Friend texted me saying the Hawks couldn't practice today because of a Rolling Stones concert at the UC and that games 1 & 2 of the WCF (assuming a win tomorrow night) would either have to be played on back-to-back nights or have several days off due to more Stones concerts scheduled for this weekend. Anyone else heard that?

it's interesting just how big of a window howard gives him on the glove side. i've seen people speculate that it's because howard was overconfident with his glove, but he really gave himself no chance on a shot anywhere near the post. part of that has to do with how well fro sells the stick-side forehand, specifically, dropping that left knee. and wow, talk about coming up big; that shot was about as perfect as they get

Can't they practice at Johnny's Ice House?

I don't think Howard realized how far to the stick side he was. When Frolik flipped it past him, Howard didn't react, almost as though he though that was going to go wide.

The Rolling Stones will rock Chicago's United Center Tuesday night.

The concert is part of the "50 and Counting" tour, which refers to the band's five decades in the music business.

The band will perform again at the United Center on Friday, and a third show will follow on Monday.

Well Stones are playing 3 shows at the UC....Tuesday, Friday and next Monday. Tonight doesnt matter because game 7 is tomorrow. I'm guessing Game 1 of the ECF is going to be Thursday night, with the Stones concert on Friday, then Game 1 of the WCF (if the Hawks win) on Saturday, either Game 2 of the WCF or ECF on Sunday. Its the ECF on Sunday, there probably won't be a game on Monday, then Game 2 of the WCF on Tuesday. If they make the WCF back to back Saturday and Sunday, then the ECF on Monday.

I know with the condensed season, they probably want to avoid and possibly cant afford 2 days off between games in the conference finals, so its possible they make the Hawks play back to back.

Also, the Hawks practice at Johnny's Ice House in the West Loop, so there shouldn't be any concerns about the Stones concert affecting their practice time.

I feel bad for the UC workers that could possibly have to convert the stadium between a rock concert and hockey 6 times over the course of a week, but I'm sure they knew this was a strong possibility and that's why the 3 Stones concerts are scheduled the way they are.

Imagine if the NHL wasn't riddled with strikes and lockouts and had any leverage at all to sign a TV deal

Couldn't NBC justify just putting in on the main channel? I know it would be tough to bump another stirring round of "The Voice"...

They want NBC Sports Network to succeed, so it doesn't make much sense to move stuff off that channel to the main network.

plus "The Voice" is probably their top rated show right now

On NBC, The Voice hit a series low for a performance show with a 3.1 adults 18-49 rating, down 11 percent from last week's 3.5.

So it's down, but that still equates to just over 10 million viewers.

For comparison, Saturday nights hockey game on NBC was a 1.1 nationally. And for the regular season,

an average of 1.5 million viewers have tuned in to watch the 13 regular season games shown on NBC.

But those are great ratings for the NHL.

Oh come on, you were pissed it was Frolik taking the penalty shot.

But full credit to the guy, he came through in a huge situation with a sick move.

So before I get to the penalty shot, let me just say that I assume that most Wings fans if they were honest are more upset about losing a game that The Wings were the better team. I think almost every fan of every sport feels that way and it is magnified by the playoffs. I also think a lot of Wings fans wrongly feel that The Wings cannot win game 7 in Chicago, so that was almost a must win. I think that thinking is wrong, but I kind of understand it. To be honest Hawks players, Coach and fans and National "unbiased" broadcast have over stated the physical play by The Wings. Have they been physical? yes. But it is nothing compared to what the Hawks will have to face if they have to play The Kings. So as a Wing fan listening to The Hawks being kind of whinny has been somewhat irritating. Especially since the primary source is a well respected player like Toews. All the while the Hawks have been doing all the same things at a comparable rate.

To look at the penalty shot in a bubble, it was a weak call. I understand the rules. But lets be honest, the NHL is famous for not being sticklers to the rules. To look at the call in context of the game/series it was a terrible call. What I found even more bothersome than it happening in a game 6 or whatever was that it happened in that game in particular. The refs had clearly decided somewhere along the line that calling things was not going to be a big priority on this series. Last nights game in particular was full of trips, slashes, interference, cross checks, holding the stick, and hooking. I am not pointing the finger at either team. Both were doing it and the only thing getting called was over the top blatant stuff. Heck Kindles interference that lead to the Hawks first PP was actually questionable if you look at it compared to what interference didn't get called the rest of the game. And then in the middle of the 3rd period that call is made. After all the stuff that was allowed to go on.

Now did it cost The Wings the game?..no. They only got one soft goal while they were skating circles around the Hawks in the second. They made mistakes early in the 3rd. Howard had his weakest game of the series and was terrible on the Penalty Shot. That is why the Wings lost.

Which Wings player has been consistently worked over on the blurred edges of playoff rules like Toews has?

I agree Detroit's physical play has been overstated. It's not overt goonery. It's hard, determined play that works only in the playoffs. Whether it should is another argument.

Fair assessment overall. Regarding the penalty shot, Hawks fans are going to say 'it was the right call per the rulebook' and Wings fans are going to say 'it was ticky tack and shouldnt have been called given how the rest of the game was called'. I don't think either side is going to convince the other.

As far as the Kings, I am quite worried about facing them if the Hawks advance. I'd say if the Hawks played the Sharks, Hawks in 6, if the Hawks played the Kings, Kings in 6. But I don't think the Hawks have no shot....it would just be a difficult series. Winning the first 2 at home would be critical. Wings would have a decent chance to beat LA.

The sentiment against the penalty call seems to be that Detroit has gotten away with so many illegal things all series long that it's not fair they actually got called on one of them.

Like I said.

Howard played that penalty shot horribly. He wasn't even close to stopping it, and looks like he didn't have a clue where he was.

If Howard stops it (and it's not like Kane was his opponent, let's be honest...) not one Wings fan is saying anything about the call. But since Howard stunk up the joint against a bench player, suddenly it becomes the refs fault for a terrible call, even though by the rules it's the correct call? Just because of context, or something?

Not making sense, sorry NUN.

this is a really weird post, even ignoring the bizarre capitalization of "The" before Wings and Kings.

if a hawk player slashed a wing player with an unimpeded path to the goal, i would be pissed at the hawk player that committed the penalty, not the ref that made the correct call.

talk about whiny.
