When did Frolik have a big Penalty Shot make in the playoffs? Maybe it was against Vancouver...maybe Game 6?

 

Edit: Yup, it was Game 6 against Detroit, Hawks down by a goal in the 3rd, Frolik made the penalty shot at the Hawks won in OT to send it to game 7.

For the hockey novice, can anyone explain what justifies a penalty shot call? I have seen many similar plays result in regular minor penalties.

I think it has to do with the player being clearly in front of the defender....sort of a clear path foul in basketball.

In ice hockey, a penalty shot is a type of penalty awarded when a team loses a clear scoring opportunity on a breakaway because of a foul committed by an opposing player. A player from the non-offending team is given an attempt to score a goal without opposition from any defending players except the goaltender.
