FYI...Sveum is currently 79-128 as the manager of the Cubs.

So? Have you seen the rosters he's worked with?

His management of the bullpen is as bad as Dusty's management of the starting rotation.

Sveum is a moron when it comes to that.

Even being generous with assuming the bullpen "should" have won a bunch of the games they've blown that makes the record, what, soemthing like 90-117?

@GDubCub: Sveum on Ozzie recently saying he'd be willing to be a coach for Cubs: "I don't have no openings on my staff."

Oh come on. At least train wrecks are more fun than garden variety suckage.

Maybe Sveum is subliminally offering him a job with that double negative.

Sveum needs to figure out how to manage a bullpen or he needs to go. End of story.

If you're referring to last night as another example, that wasn't him. He was thrown out in the second inning.

For the billionth time, he was still calling the shots.

@BruceMiles2112: Sveum on not staying with Villanueva: "(Marmol) is out setup guy. Villanueva did his job." #Cubs

Yesterday: Marmol IS our closer

Today: Marmol IS our set up guy

Tomorrow: Marmol IS our mop up man

Next Week: Marmol DID cost me my job

I hate when they leave starters in long, with elevated pitch counts only to force a reliever into the game with men already on. Let your reliever enter a clean inning with a lead

Smardz was at 115 pitches, and Russell relieved him, and then Villanueva relieved him. Marmol had his own inning to piss all over. Now what I hate is when they insist on replacing relievers too soon because they allow a baserunner or 2, and/or they're too knee-jerky when it comes to lefty/righty matchups. When you have 3 competent reievers, you shouldn't waste 2 on one inning that clearly didn't seem in danger of getting out of hand. More importantly, Villanueva is a recently converted starter, so he could have gone more than one inning, especially when there's so little reliability coming out of our pen.

I tend to agree with JCF though. Russell probably would've gotten through the 7th fine if he had started it. Also, samardzija was clearly out of gas when he was pulled, but of course he should've been pulled earlier.

Yeah, there was no need to push Samardzija like that.

I think it was when Sveum compared Wellington Castillo's defense to Yadier Molina's that I was officially like, "Alright, F this Sveum guy."

That said, you won't be able to find anybody significantly better, so may as well keep him.

What's the point of a Sveum watch? Why change managers now? Makes zero sense it's not like any other manager can get much more out of this crap.

I don't understand this perspective. Maximize your chances with what you have. This team is a bad team, yes, but what correct management of the pen, the Cubs probably have at least 3-4 more wins. It's not like managers have a shelf life where we'd be wasting their prime.

3-4 wins? Again, what's the point? Keep him around to when we actually get good and see who's available if we need a change. The Cubs manager is hardly a pressing issue right now.

As far as managers go, Sveum is the lesser of most evils, even with his bullpen management warts.

If you want to pick on Dale, I'd go with Castro going backwards under his watch long before the pen issues.
