Castro 2-for-17

Rizzo 2-for-17

Olt 1-for-8

Baseball is the worst.

imagine if bryant and baez have bad years.

I was kinda hoping that this would be the "rock bottom" year.

Baseball is the worst.

Not exactly the start we were hoping for, it's a long season (very long for us) and by July those 17/18 at bats will be a drop in the bucket.

I don't know where to put this, so I just figured I would throw it in here. The Cubs are obviously off to a bad start with hitting with runners in scoring position. I guess the White Sox have also had some issues with this the last couple of games, or at least that seems to be the 'why they lost' excuse. I was wondering what is an okay amount for LOBs? I understand that the answer is not 5 or anything that simple. But is there an actual percentage of baserunners that a normal offense should be able to score? I truly understand that the people who focus on this stuff are missing the bigger picture.

I think its a toss up on OK numbers. The problem is that you could have ok looking numbers(as far as LOB) because no one is on base.

For both the Sox and Cubs, the problem isn't necessarily that they don't hit with RISP, it's that they don't hit period. If your lineup is loaded with sub .250 hitters, you can't expect that more success is going to come when runners are on.

well, you know prices are rising quickly….that may look like a bargain at the end of 6 seasons!

Bonifacio is a nice player. He is an upgrade. He could certainly be helpful for the next 3 seasons while different kids become major league ready.

That being said, I have to believe his greatest value to the long term outlook of this team is to play like he is capable (.320 ob%, maybe a 2 war) and trade him at the deadline when a contender has a short term need.

Could he fit in on this team when all the young guys are here, certainly. He plays a ton of positions, and he is a switch hitter.

I think the bottom line is we don't have much to cheer about other than Emilio.

Levine is suggesting it might be time to give Bonifacio a three-year deal. :nea:

why stop there? 6 years/30 mil sounds good.

The only value signing him to even a 2 year deal is that he wouldn't be a 2 month rental for whoever we trade with.

BUT I think he may have more value because he isn't signed past this year. I have to believe that any contender that would trade for him has a better long term option but have had an injury or some set back.

WGNtv thinly veiled 'Good Bye' to Cubs broadcasts somewhat sad.'For 66 Aprils...we brought you a very special day...we'll do it 1 more time'

I was checking out his Twitter to see if I could find the Samardzija stuff I remembered him posting somewhere and saw this.

Did anyone else catch this? If true, looks less and less likely that a bridge until 2019 with WGN deal happens.

Hopefully the Fox stuff happens.

I heard that Ryno was asked by the Cubs front office if he would wear a Cubs jersey when he threw out the first pitch for Friday's opener. What a low class move.

I know the media landscape has changed but I hold out hope that there is some way to broadcast the day games around the country(Fox1/WGN/whatever) without fans having to buy the MLB package. That's killing a new generation of fans.

Lastly, I have found both the WGN-TV and Comcast opening broadcast segments to be lifeless and boring. They bring no excitement to the game. The mid-80's opening was outstanding.

No, it's not. That's not how people consume sports anymore.

There's no way they asked the opposing manager to wear the home uni for the first pitch.

The strategy of grooming a new generation of fans with free superstation access with very limited competition from other entertainment sources is no longer a viable business strategy and is pointless and silly.

Ugh, not sad or me at all; I can't wait until their cheap, low rent operation is long gone.

If he is still leading MLB in hits come October, give him an extension.

Are you talking about the graphics that start the broadcast? I mean...my 7yo notices that stuff, but I could care less about it.

I remember the mid 80's openings too, but that's because I was 7yo at the time.

You were 7 throughout the mid-80's? Crazy.

So you care about it?

But yeah, that intro is horrific. Even worse than that CSN intro from a few years ago with the SWINGBATTABATTASWINGBATTABATTASWINGBATTABATTA thing

The current intro is so lame. Both the pitcher and the batter look like the same scrawny gritty white guy who should have washed out, and the "HR" looks like a pop up thanks to WGN's usual crappy graphics work.
