I like that he consolidated all the reasons not to read BCB into one tidy post for easy reference.

Excellent.

You guys actually made me click to BCB for the first time in about five years. Al has not grown any smarter during that time.

Though his site's layout has somehow grown even more ugly.

I'm sorry Tim, I only went because NotTomRicketts wouldn't stop making fun of the damn thing.

Barely made it like a quarter of the way through that atrocity.

Damn. I'm going Sunday. May have to get tix to Sat too.

I'll be at the game on Sunday with my family. Assuming you are from the area by your username, I have a quick question: will it be impossible to get a table at the Pyramid Brewpub after the game. We will have a baby with us that complicates matters, so we would need a normal table, not just a hightop or something like that.

I'm assuming higher than normal attendance b/c of a Cubs game on a Sunday, so I'd say it'll be pretty difficult unless you leave the game early. If you're able to go downtown instead, you should, if nothing else bc there are more and better places.

Ok, thanks!

Yes. Unremarkable outside of saying people should blame the FO for team talent deficiencies and not the manager.

Yeah, I just heard it on the way home. Said some things about how Starlin is just experiencing growing pains that most do in the minors and that he's experiencing failure for the first time, which is something every player has to go through but that it usually happens much earlier. Or something like that.

Well, this is something I would not have guessed, even though this team definitely doesn't piss me off with early in the count swinging like teams in the past.

@CarrieMuskat

@m_sheldon #Cubs rank 3rd in NL in pitches per plate appearance. Hasn't helped them.

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that either. So basically our offense, on a whole, is incapable of finishing off an ab or doing anything with getting a good pitch to hit and doing something with it. 12th in NL OBP, 12th in BA, 8th in SLG

8th in SLG with the collection of talent we have doesn't seem all that bad and might be a result of that approach.

I suppose, but .395 isn't all that great regardless of the rankings. They are 17th in all of MLB in SLG, FWIW. I'd imagine they drop down to 10ish range in all of MLB in PPPA since the AL has the DH.

I think the rankings matter very much. This is what baseball is now.

Doesn't seem all that bad? It's below the mid-point of the league. It's certainly not a positive.

I'm saying that given the roster it seems like it should be worse than around average.

It was better than that earlier in the year. I'm not sure why you think it seems like it should be worse. They have some guys with SLG ability (some of whom happen to not be SLGing).
