Cuba, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and the Netherlands advanced to round 2. Two of those teams will advance to the semifinals.

If those two teams aren't Cuba and Japan it'd be an enormous upset.

And Netherlands beats Cuba

And Rizzos double gives Italy a win over Mexico.

And Japan had to erase a 9th inning deficit to beat Chinese Taipei, or that would have been some heated elimination game tomorrow.

Giancarlo Stanton is like 20 combined feet from 2 massive, game-changing HRs.

And Karim Garcia misplays 2 balls hilariously but gets Stanton's warning track power.

13 US position players and we can't find anyone better than Jonathan Lucroy and Willie Bloomquist to fill those spots?

Lucroy had a .881 OPS last year and a 3.9 WAR while missing about 50 games due to a broken hand. He's one of the better catchers in baseball.

His good partial season doesn't sway me more than the body of work, although in fairness it was better than my memory. ZiPS ranks him tied for 13th among catchers and 7th among American born catchers, behind Posey, Mauer, Wieters, McCann, Zunino, and Avila.

Why are Jimmy Rollins and Eric Hosmer on this team? Troy Tulowitzki and Prince Fielder busy? I get the pitchers skipping, but why would the hitters?

Wow I though USA was eliminated after 1 game as I was assuming Mexico would beat Canada. How does the tiebreakers work if it ends up

Italy 3-0

Mexico 1-2

US 1-2

Canada 1-2

Runs scored?

Run differential. They wouldn't have been eliminated even if Mexico would have won. Now they aren't eliminated even if they lose tonight.

So right now the differentials are: Mexico (1-2) -5, USA (0-1) -3, Canada (1-1) -3

Just runs in games amongst those three. Helping Canada tremendously.

I want a gif of Bowa and Torre celebrating that grand slam while Maddux doesn't even blink next to them.

Wait, so a Mexican team was sore losers and resorted to dirty play? Haven't heard that one before.

Also, their fans threw objects at the opposing team. Shocking, I know.

I like the WBC more than a lot of people, and want to love it... but unfortunately the best player in the stadium is sitting in the stands. which is unfortunate.

I thought Rizzo was playing for Italy.

Because they too play the game of baseball and could end up injured.

So you think the hitters are at an increased injury rate in this, than say regular spring at bats?

They are if they're playing the Mexican team.
