It's almost that time of year when sports talk picks a story line for the big game and beats it to death. Which will we get tired of hearing about first.

No Packers, no Eli, so it's all good in the hood.

I live in Ravens country and everyone assumes I'm a fan. I've been telling them at I might get on board as soon as Ray Lewis retires.

But yeah, I really enjoy not having to worry about the Packers winning.

Brady by far. Especially when they bring Peyton Manning into it and ignore that Brady's also had one of the best coaches ever on his side while Peyton hasn't.

Lewis.

yuck

my hope is that in the years to come Patrick Willis will surpass Lewis in the pantheon of great linebackers. All of Lewis' self-promotion and media aggrandizing as "the Godfather" or whatever is just nauseating.

players who've won as many DPOY as Lewis:

Mean Joe Greene

Lawrence Taylor

Mike Singletary

Bruce Smith

Reggie White

that's it

It may be noteworthy to point out that number is 2, that award is just something handed out by the AP, and it's only 40 years old. It's as much reputational as anything else.

lol sp. He's one of a handful of guys to win an award twice (with LT winning 3 times) and you spin it like you did. Hahaha.

On the flip side, I'd really love the final story line to be that Billy Cundiff kicks the winning FG that beats the Ravens. That would easily make up for anything they say about Ray Lewis.

+1. He's at least an accessory to murder.

Ray Lewis is the 3rd or 4th best defensive player ever after Lawrence Taylor, Dick Butkus, and/or Reggie White.

Yeah, the guy revolutionized celebrating every tackle as though it won the game even the it's 7 yards down the field and it's 2nd and 3.

I think you are over glorifying the LB position by a country mile. Also, 30-40 years ago it was much more important than it has been the past decade. Defensive backs and pass rushers have been more important in the modern era.

Agree. But what DB or pass rusher in the last 10 years could make a claim to be better than Ray Lewis? Not a year at a time, but body of work. Revis has been the best player at times. JJ Watt this year. Nobody has been consistently elite at those position the way Ray was from the start of his career to about 4-5 years ago.

Not really a fair question since the shelf life of a defensive back or pass rusher is likely much shorter than a typical middle linebacker. But since you asked, how about Ed Reed?
