Brutal loss tonight.

Yeah this one is going to sting. We blew 3rd period leads with under 10 mins left in both losses to these bozos.

Meh. Without Sharp and Hossa, and a clearly gassed Kane, the Hawks played really well for 35 minutes in the 2nd and 3rd. The first was just... ugly. I would have preferred that they call up Morin rather than have Carcillo out there for 2 or 3 minutes.

But he's suspended... dumbass.

i think everybody with a calculator is on the "anaheim is playing way over their heads" bandwagon, so, no real need to beat that horse. they're just simply not that good, and that really is enough to satisfy me for now. i'm far more worried about the kings and the canucks, who are legitimately better teams

how many times this season have the hawks given up a goal because they get yippy in their own zone? we just get sloppy back there sometimes and it's almost always met by the worse case scenario

people are going to say this was a statement game, or spin it as something incredibly meaningful, but it really isn't. we were running out bollig and hayes instead of hossa and sharp (though, not in a minutes sense. but even then, the increased ice time for others matters). if those two are in it, this game doesn't go this way

[expletive] anaheim. there is no way they're finishing ahead of us. still though, that was awful. sucks that hossa is so fragile now too.

Five days off next. Leave it all out there.

the layoff will really suck for us fans, but it might be a good thing that the team gets to stew over this one for 5 days, especially when we get those guys again so soon in our house.

considering how well things have gone this season, a little adversity before the playoffs is probably a good thing...as long as it's not too much. i'd probably prefer if anaheim just completely fell off, but it might be better for this team's cup chances if they stay with the hawks until the end. we need to keep the intensity up before the postseason.

I keep hearing this, but this is only the second game his missed this season. At least, in its entirety.

But he's one hit away from being out indefinitely. While you could say that about a lot of players, it's particularly worrisome with Hossa since the roster- as currently constructed- doesn't have the depth for him to miss significant time.

The Hawks are going to have to make the tough decision to cut lose Mayers or Carcillo. At this point, Bollig has shown enough that they really don't need Mayers as the sandpaper guy. What they really need is a wing that can be an energy guy on the 4th line that has enough speed and upside to not look completely lost on the top 2 lines. In other words- and I know I'm beating that dead horse- they need either Smith or Morin up and Carcillo or Mayers out. I'd much rather try to trade Carcillo but it's easier financially to just release Mayers.

Bollig has been very good the last few weeks. If he can keep it up, I'm just fine with him on the fourth line wing. Carcillo is pretty much useless though. He's not bringing much physicality, isn't contributing offensively, and apparently did something else to piss off Q. I don't know if he has any value to another team, but if so it would be great to unload him.

there's not a roster on earth that has the depth to replace a hossa-caliber player. besides that, the hawks have more depth than most. losing him would suck, but it wouldn't all the sudden make us uncompetetive. we just played the supposed second-best team in the league with out two elite wingers and controlled the game for a significant stretch. we clearly have the ability to absorb his absence at least temporarily

you're probably right on the point about the relative difficulty of shedding carcillo or mayers, but i would like to point out (as has been done elsewhere) that mayers wins draws. this is incredibly important for a puck-possession team

That's true, however, skating Kane 20+ minutes per night makes him less effective and more likely to get injured. Smith/ Morin/ whomever would not replace Hossa but they could be relied on to take at least most of their shifts, thus easing the bruden on everyone else.

I'd much rather keep Mayers. So would the Hawks, I believe. Carcillo, iirc, is signed for next season too. Not sure how it affects the cap if they cut him. However, if Bowman could get a draft pick for John F Scott, surely he can find a taker for Carcillo. The glacial speed of Eastern Conference games would make Carcillo look like the flash despite his injuries. I'd take a 7th round pick for Carcillo

Yeah Detroit thumped Anaheim. Good on them.

In other news:

@walsha: Rostislav Olesz playing his 1st game of the season tonight after returning from ACL surgery with 1G+1A with Rockford.

Allan Walsh must be his agent. Credit the guy for trying.

Rust-eze is playing for a new contract once the Hawks buy him out. Good luck to him.

With last night's pole-axing of the Ducks, Scum moves past Scum Jr. into 2nd place. Or more accurately distant second place.

so The Ducks have been lucky this season...but Adelkader has been playing on the same line as Datsyuk for several weeks now and that line has had ZERO 5 on 5 points. Last night 4, including 3 goals by Adelkader. Maybe the Ducks luck is turning

I so hope the Hawks end up facing them in the WCF as opposed to LA or Vancouver, check out this statistic - http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Travis-Yost/Score-Adjusted-Fenwick-Standings-3122013/134/49926#.UU85SDcfuKJ, they'll beat them and I believe somewhat easily.

We must be way up in the division because I'm actually thanking Detroit for giving Anaheim 2 straight regulation losses. Hawks maintain their 3 point lead and now have a game in hand on them.

Who cares about the #1 seed.

Me...ultimately it doesnt matter but I like to have something to root for the rest of the regular season and I like home ice throughout the playoffs.
