Like it or not I think Carcillo stays on the top line. And he did fairly well in that spot last year before getting hurt.

Jimmy Hayes got recalled tonight. I really like his game and think he can be a really effective power forward in time. So happy hockey is back.

He hasn't been setting the world on fire for Rockford so far. It's hard to known what to make of what some of these players did in the AHL. Saad was a pretty big disappointment and then he exploded this weekend with 6 pts (2g, 4 ast.)

I don't even have a working knowledge of how the NHL waiver process works, but anyways, there's this:

Some waivers news: @RenLavoieRDS reports that #Blackhawks goaltending prospect Carter Hutton is on waivers.

Yeah, neither do I. I wonder if he needs to clear waivers in order to be called up. Which would beg the question of why he would be called up.

Apparently we aren't alone in confusion:

Even if I did know before, I'm sure I don't know now since the new CBA changed certain aspects of waivers.

This has to be some sort of formality in order to invite him to camp. Hutton is old and his future in the NHL is speculative at best but he's done a good job for Rockford so far this season leading some to wonder if he could be Crawford 2.0, ie. late bloomer that makes the most of his chance to finally get the call.

I agree, and I would be fine with giving him a shot over Emery. Emery is more expensive, but I think the new CBA doesn't allow contracts to be buried in the AHL, so I guess it doesn't matter where he plays for cap purposes.

In other news, both Center Ice and Gamecenter are $50 for the season. I think that's fair. Now just need to decide if Gamecenter's quality is good enough. Anyone use it?

gamecenter rules. 50 bucks is a discount on the monthly rate from last year too. it's also on pretty much every platform you can think of (ps3, xbox, pretty much every mobile device). if you have good internet, the high quality feed is like 2 steps short of HD and it is awesome.

they have SOME server issues sometimes but it's not a common thing. happens 3-4 times a season and you might miss part of a game or two because of it if you watch every night.

It seems like Montador's injury might prevent them from making any trades that might bring in a new goalie. If Monty was healthy they could consider moving Hjammer or perhaps Leddy but now they really can't since Olsen has taken steps back so far and the others aren't ready or not good enough.

Of course they could trade either Stalberg or Bickell. It seems like Stalberg would have more value and is more expendable but I think they may want to just ride his contract year to glory and see what happens with regards to paying him.

Thanks, I'm definitely leaning that way as I'm splitting my time between STL and KC these days, so Center Ice being tethered to my TV doesn't help me. But I was curious to know what the quality is. I'll be watching on either the ps3 or Apple TV.

The Carter Hutton on waivers is a procedural thing. Goaltender will be headed back to AHL Rockford.

In the past you needed to clear waivers if you had a one way contract to be moved from the NHL to the AHL. Two way contracts aren't subject to waivers. Assume it's the same with the new CBA but do not know for sure.

one way/two way contracts don't have any bearing on the waiver process, merely the amount of money the parent club was paying the player in the minors if he was to be sent there. waiver process is entirely based on amount of time spent in nhl/turned pro as far as i know.

Apparently Crawford looks [expletive] in the scrimmage tonight. Awesome.

I'd guess that a lot of the guys that didn't play during the lockout look like crap this week. Crawford looking terrible early may be better in the long run since it might force Stan Bowman to make a trade. The worst case scenario is that he looks ok but the Hawks still lose and the blame it on Kane somehow- or Bollig not being on the team.

Yeah fine as long as he doesn't freak out this morning and call Gillis. I'd be fine with Thomas for a year if they could get him to play.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/chi-blackhawks-set-roster-20130117,0,7379273.story

Here is the Hawks' roster to start the 2013 season:

FORWARDS: Bryan Bickell, Dave Bolland, Brandon Bollig, Daniel Carcillo, Michael Frolik, Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane, Marcus Kruger, Jamal Mayers, Brandon Saad, Patrick Sharp, Andrew Shaw, Viktor Stalberg and Jonathan Toews.

DEFENSEMEN: Sheldon Brookbank, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Duncan Keith, Nick Leddy, Steve Montador (injured), Johnny Oduya, Michal Rozsival and Brent Seabrook.

GOALTENDERS: Corey Crawford and Ray Emery.

Posted

Might be wishful thinking but here are the lineups for game 1

Toews Hossa Stalberg

Bolland Kan Sharp

Kruger Bickell Carcillo

Mayers Shaw Frolik

Keith Seabrook

Oduya Leddy

Brookbank Hjammer

Crawford

Healthy scratch: Rosilazislovis however you spell his name, Saad and Bollig. Don't need to fight in game 1 so no Bollig. Q needs at least 1 game to put Stalberg in the doghouse. The 6th and 7th defensmen will split time.

Jonathan Toews is not practicing with #Blackhawks teammates in Los Angeles.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Let's just hope he's still bitter toward ownership and this is his final protest.

Damn. I was worried he had some random flare up of concussion related symptoms.

Sucks I'm out of town this weekend and of course am getting the Flyers/Penguins game in my area. Oh well

That game should be really entertaining.
