Phil Mickelson hates taxes:

http://www.cbssports.com/golf/blog/eye-on-golf/21589838/phil-mickelson-says-changes-coming-because-of-taxes

Hard to feel to sorry for a guy making $50 million a year. But 62-63% taxes, ouch. I think that professional athletes might get screwed worse than anyone else in taxes. After all, who else makes millions of dollars in "salary". Most people making that kind of dough make it from capital gains, and basically pay LESS taxes than everyone else.

I always wondered why he moved back to California after living in Arizona. Most tour players states with little or no state tax. Between the California proposition increasing income tax on $1 million plus and the federal tax increase, Phil is taking a serious hit.

Yeah... I'm not feeling sorry. That % is just insane though. That article is old too as it doesn't talk about the FedEx Cup which also goes into their retirement plans as well. Best retirement plan out of any pro sports by a mile.

Probably should be even higher.

If your career boils down to playing golf, betting on football and drinking 3/4ths of the year?

Damn straight. That's a pretty sweet life.

Don't feel sorry for him, that's not the point. No one should pay over half of what they earn to the government..no matter what that amount is. I am pretty sure we all had the chance to grab some clubs and have that sweet life...but of course we didn't. It's not his fault he has a skill that pays well.

What you should look at is that the tax increase will hurt (actually even more so) all of us in the long run. Phil brings up a great point...he has to make changes. As will every wealthy person. In the end I will bet that our revenue from taxes will actually drop and I guarantee that california's will. Rich people won't keep their money here, and won't live in cali.

Tiger said he moved in 1996 because of the taxes. He moved to florida for golf and no income taxes. I wonder what 10% of Tiger's salary would have brought to california over the last 16 years?

Tiger is on [expletive] fire. Last 4 holes, birdie, eagle, birdie, par. -6 on the day, -10 overall and in first place. Has 6 holes left on the round for the day.

Hasn't he had crazy success at that course?

I believe so, he grew up very close to it. I think.

It was basically his home course when he was a kid. If he wins this one, that's 8 wins at Torrey Pines ALONE. Most golfers would be ecstatic to have that many wins for their CAREER!

I believe he has 7 wins on 2 other courses as well: Firestone and can't remember the 3rd one. 21 wins on just 3 courses is good for 29th all time on the wins list or more than Els/Irwin/Love III/Norman in their career.

I really feel like Tiger's gonna have a really good year. I'm expecting him to win a major.

Assuming he doesn't have an injury/weird [expletive] happen in his personal life he really looks poised to have an excellent season. I almost expect him to win 1 major if he stays around where he is right now.

his short game is sooo much better right now than it was the second half of last year, and it still has room for improvement. his biggest "problem" today was his wayward drives, which is kind of hilarious to call a problem for him since he plays well out of adversity. i'm liking team nike right now, some really great players to devote attention to this year.

short game is filthy, saved him most of the 4th round. could have been 3 over, instead of 3 under for those 7. This is what he was said to be working on during the winter/off season. He looked good even in dubai..he just drove terribly. Also he has won here 6 times(and once more in a us open) but he has not played well here since 2008, so playing well may come from some comfort but he is definitely playing very, very well.

Yesterday was awesome! golf coverage from 9am til 7pm, then re-caps!

Dude just hit an insane bunker shot on 11. Not much suspense but still fun to watch a little golf to pass a Monday afternoon at work.

How easy is this course they are playing on this week? Are they hitting from the Woman's tees? Phil is -23, 2nd is -18, and then there's a bunch of guys around -14 to -16

Looking forward to Pebble Beach this weekend now that I have played the course. Probably need Phil to get back to his old self if I'm going to see parts of the course my ball was typically hiding in.
