Choo would join a lineup featuring Votto, Bruce, Phillips, Frazier, and Ludwick, not to mention Cozart and Mesorasco, each of whom could come into their own offensively next year as well as a very capable pitching staff. As long as the Cubs arent goign anywhere, I'd rather the Reds than the Brewers or Cardinals.

much as i love the name, Didi Gregorius has the look of Neifi Perez to him, and i don't really mean that as the terrible insult it sounds like; they're eerily similar in terms of numbers and good defensive reputation

it's worthwhile to remember Neifi was a top-50 prospect once, though

Why did we stop calling them DBR again?

Dusty and Brenneman are reason enough to hope for them to do just as bad as the Cardinals for me. Somehow DB will figure out a way to have his two lowest OBP guys hit 1-2 even if Choo is added

Wait, what?

The Indians discussed a deal for Cabrera with the Diamondbacks that would have netted them right-hander Trevor Bauer and left-hander Tyler Skaggs at the winter meetings.

Cabrera for Bauer & Skaggs? That seems ridiculous. But the latest report also says that the DBacks would want to get Gregarious instead of Cabrera in this three-team trade possibility, and I think Bauer is the pitcher being moved on their end to acquire someone.

Please, please, please try and sell high on Barney to get Bauer. Pretty please?

Youk signs a 1/$12 deal with the Yanks, I'm sure the FU to Red Sox is a nice side fringe benefit. He reportedly turned down 2/$18 from the Indians.

I'd have to think that if they target Gregorius that Corbin would be the pitcher they try and move to acquire him, since that would make a bit more sense, but his name hasn't come up that much as opposed to Bauer being their primary trading chip in these types of negotiations.

The three-team deal will see Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Donald going to the Reds, Didi Gregorius to the Diamondbacks, and Drew Stubbs plus an Arizona pitcher going to the Indians, a source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Patrick Corbin or Trevor Bauer will likely be the Arizona pitcher going to Cleveland, Rosenthal tweets.

God [expletive] Damn it. I wish we could've figured out a way to let AZ dump one of those guys on us, since they seemed hell bent on getting rid of one.

Seriously, where the hell was Theo/Jed on that one?

I would definitely trade Barney for Corbin straight up. Bauer's a no-brainer obviously. That said, who knows how Towers looks at Barney? He may just like Gregorius more. No clue how or why, but I guess its a possibility. Our focus is young SP, can't imagine we've not been in contact with Arizona.

Maybe Arizona just liked Gregorius better?

Is he some sort of fielding god? Because he's absolute horse [expletive] offensively. Doesn't get on base at any sort of great rate, doesn't hit for a great average or hit for any power or steal bases.

There is a gap in quality between Bauer and Corbin. I'm pretty indifferent to Corbin.

Don't the Diamondbacks inexplicably hate Bauer, though?

#dbacks like didi gregorius, who'd be under their control for 6 yrs (as opposed to 2 for asdrubal). #3way

Barney is under control for 4. Are the Cubs planning on keeping Barney or do teams not think of Barney as a legit SS? Would Barney + Wood be a good start to opening discussions on a Bauer trade?

Is Domonic Brown actually good defensively despite UZR hating his guts?

Because I can't figure out what I'm supposed to like about him other than he teed off on AA in 2010 and is maybe healthy after a bunch of injuries.

It could be neither of those things and just that Towers inexplicably loves Gregorius and is willing to do stupid things to get him.

IIRC correctly his defense was supposed to be at least average, but if it's his defense last year that was looking bad he was recovering from a leg injury which probably limited his range and effectiveness in the field.

FWIW, Baseball Prospect Report (not sure how legit their analysis is) rated him on the 20/80 scale in 2009 as this:

Hit 40/60

Power 45/75

Run 60/70

Arm 50/60

Field 40/60

Phuture Phillies updated his profile in January of 2011 with this scale:

Hit For Average: 55/60

Hit For Power: 55/65

Fielding: 45/55

Throwing Arm: 60/65

Speed: 55/60

Ben Badler in 2009 wrote:

"Brown became the position player in the league with arguably the most superstar potential. Brown is an excellent athlete with a 6-foot-5, 204-pound frame that screams projection. He has terrific bat speed, good feel for the strike zone, a solid two-strike approach and projectable power that is beginning to manifest itself in games. Despite his lofty numbers in the regular season, parts of Brown's game remain green as he grows into his coordination. With above-average speed and a 70 arm on the 20-80 scouting scale, Brown has the tools to be a plus defender, but his routes and instincts still need work."

UZR also has less than 100 games to judge him with, half of those while he was battling leg injuries. From some searching, the consensus seems to be "mediocre range, good to very good arm" as a RF.
