i'd really like to do this but we're running out of time. I dont want to step on anyones toes, but I would volunteer to organize it this year...

I want to do it as well, figured we'd make a deal or two bringing in more prospects, which is why I haven't thought much about it yet. Maybe wait til Febrruary 1st or so?

Yeah, I've been waiting to see if we deal Shark before getting it going. There's still plenty of time.

if we're gonna do say 40, and leave each poll open for 2 days, thats 80 days. 80 days from now is late March. There's not really that much time..

I'm going to run it more like the mid-season poll. Everyone creates their own complete top 40 list and I combine the results to get an overall ranking.

There's other avenues to take though. First, we could do 2 days thru the top 10 or 20 and one day for the rest.(personally, I still want to do 50)Secondly, we can have runoffs and use top 3 vote getters all in one vote. Example 24-26 all go down in one vote.

Main thing would be to just make sure everyone knows the voting may just be one day, instead of two. But we'll be fine, everyone can check in once a day hopefully.

I might suggest doing a poll for each of the Top 10, then let everyone else interested create a list for the rest. I think there's a lot less interest in those lower prospects on the list, and asking for a list of 40 is daunting, even if you don't HAVE to do the full list.

A nice hybrid approach.

man the polls were the best part of last offseason. :)

Tim we should do one twice a year. If you want to do it that way, everyone make a list then add up points, that's cool. But it would be pretty sweet to do it again about a month after the draft. Because you know the Cubs first through 3rd round are likely gonna make the top 40 so it just makes the lists look more interesting.

That's what we did in 2013.

Agree with you there. It was much much more fun doing the poll. You got to discuss each prospect and get lots of opinions. Even change your vote if you wanted to.

My two cents.

I'll be traveling a lot the next couple months, so one of the mods would have to volunteer to run the polls. That's the big reason I was going to do things the other way.

No pressure... :)

Well I would volunteer because I have the time but I am neither moderator nor have I the experience to do one. I will say that this board and particularly last years poll rating the prospects has rekindled my love for the Cubs by giving me something to root for other than the MLB Cubs. It just got me hooked on the minor league prospects part of the game and I take great enjoyment from it. Thank you all.

Now that the holidays are over, I should be able to do it.

I fear they may be the best part of this offseason, too. Come on, Tanaka!

When do you guys want to start?

Now if we are doing the one at a time poll. Mid spring training if doing everyone's top 40 list.

I'm ready when ever you want to start. Just saw Tanaka is coming to Chicago to visit both the Cubs and White Sox but really don't see any reason to wait for that to work itself out.

i'm ready to roll now too. And would strongly favor the polls from last offseason. we can do a final tweak if and when we sign tanaka or add prospects from a Samardzija trade.

Yeah. I loved the polls. And we can always do a "where would you insert Tanaka into the list" poll like we did for somebody last time. (Paniagua?)
