If we are going the Ian Stewart route I would love to see the cubs sign one possibly two minor league free agents to push him. Vitters obviously needs seasoning and I dont think that Junior Lake is ready to make the jump from AA just yet. So whats wrong with signing another formerly high regarded top prospect? Josh Bell comes to mind.

Warning. Take this with the proverbial grain of salt...Bruce Levine hinted during his Saturday Talking Baseball show that there is a big trade "on the horizon" with the Cubs involving young players. He didn't mention names on either side, nor did he mention a specific team, but earlier in the show Levine had talked about how the Cubs still like Chisenhall and that the Cleveland Indians like several players in the Cubs system.

I'm fine with Josh Bell or Brandon Wood on a minor league contract, but I highly doubt that a minor league deal, but I can't imagine that it would enter into Stewart's success or lack there of. The bottom line is that he needs at least a few months to assess whether or not the wrist was a big factor in his struggles. If he's still bad, we have Vitters, and if we have Bell or Wood as plan C, that certainly can't hurt.

That was talked about yesterday on all the blogs and forums (and, presumably Twitter) to the point that Levine put out a Tweet saying that the Cubs weren't trading any of their young players (whatever that means).

With the nats trading for denard span word is Mike morse will be traded. Seems like a guy who could play third for us. He came up as a short stop to begin with so it doesnt seem like too far of a stretch

I don't remember him even being an average defensive corner outfielder, so I'd have extreme doubts about third. With that said, I wouldn't mind him in RF.

8 years ago Morse had a godawful half of a season at SS. Last year he was godawful in corner OF and the year before he was godawful in LF and 1B.

Nope.
