You shoud probably edit your title to say that.

Oh and thanks for noting that it was the catcher Navarro....I was worried that they dug up Jamie Navarro from somewhere.

Had a solid year in 2008 and actually made the All Star team, then was terrible for most of 3 seasons before 74 solid PA with the Reds last year. He's had a cumulative -0.6 WAR since his 1.7 WAR season in 2008 according to BR... 0.2 last year, but positive defensive WAR in all 5 seasons.

Slash line in 2008:

.295/.349/.407/.757 (470 PA)

Slash line from 2009-2011:

.207/.267/.311/.578 (754 PA)

Slash line in 2012:

.290/.306/.449/.755 (74 PA)

FO hoping that tiny sample size was some sort of adjustment or rebirth for him, or at least enough for him to be a passable defensive backup catcher?

My guess is this is a minor league deal, so they can take Clevenger off the 40 man for now and they'll compete for an eventual roster spot. The extra 40 man spot is likely more important than either at this exact point.

And we have an early favorite for the 2013 Joe Mather Award for worst WAR among Cubs position players.

This would be like calling the Cy Young award the R.A. Dickey Award just because he won it the previous season. I don't know how far back you should go, but let's at least call it the Aaron Miles Award.

It's the Neifi! Award.

According to Fangraphs, the Cubs player (pitcher or position player) who has compiled the lowest/worst career WAR is Jiggs Parrot, an 1890's 2B/3B. So I motion to call the award for worst WAR player on the Cubs, "The Jiggs Parrot Award." Respectively.

1.75 mill, per Heyman. Guess its a major league deal after all.

This is the kind of thing that got Hendry the nickname "Retail."

*sigh*

Reminds me of the Reed Johnson signing last offseason.

Strangely enough (largely because of mediocre, not bad defense), Neifi was never even close to the worst WAR on the team during his 3 season tenure with the Cubs. In fact, he had positive WAR in all 3 seasons.

@BruceMiles2112: No surprise as #Cubs sign C Dioner Navarro. Theo indicated they would seek a veteran to push probable No. 1 catcher Welington Castillo

And now I'm severely annoyed.

Well, I don't know how much pushing Navarro is going to do. Probably could have spent 750K and gotten a better option to perform well in spring training. Unless he means they need him to literally push Castillo, and if so the Navarro is the man for the job, but still not worth 1.75M

lol 1.75 million

apparently hendry was exploiting a market inefficiency with all though sweet henry blanco contracts

Blanco did make $3+M one year
