I wonder if we just have the highest big, or if his Japan team did indeed accept our offer and now we can start negotiating? I would think $25mm+ would be enough for them to accept, so by us winning the bid I assume that means they accepted.

Heyman tweeted that they accepted, so I think they're good to go on that front.

Would the internet please inform me as to how I should feel about this?

Excellent.

I wonder if he'll pitch for Korea in the coming WBC.

It's a WBC year, right?

Happy. Why not? Now, we'll be waiting a full month to get him signed though, with Boras. But still, this is good. If he's good, then we've got a nice, cheap rotation piece. If not, his salary won't hinder us from anything else.

Yes it is.

I wonder if they'll write that entire $25M against this year's salary as a partial rationale for keeping payroll low.

Any estimates as to where he would star?

I would think he'll immediately slot into the rotation. Doubt he'll need time in the minors.

Big league rotation.

#cubs said to have bid aggressively on Ryu but they did not win the bid at $25.7M

Deja Ryu all over again

Doesn't look like Law is a big fan of him. Or at least high on his ability to be a starter.

Keith Law, ESPN.com:

Ryu will be posted by his KBO team, the Hanwha Eagles, and should attract interest from just about every club because of his potential as a reliever who can get hitters on both sides of the plate out.

He is a thick-bodied lefty who has been a starter in Korea, working with a drop-and-drive delivery but with very late elbow pronation, and in the rotation his fastball is just average at 88-91. He does have a plus changeup with good arm speed and a fringy curveball in the upper 70s, which is a better left-on-left option right now than his slider. I don’t love the arm action and he had Tommy John surgery when he was in high school, but if he moves to the bullpen he could work in the low 90s with an out pitch in the change, a better option than being a back-end starter with some question about durability.

Or last year's. Or maybe that's what you mean(2012).

Either one works, most likely.
