Didn't realize the trade deadline was so soon, although it's apparently been pushed back to Thursday at 4 EST. I'm trying to remember but I feel like the Bears rarely if ever do much at the deadline. Is this actually the case?

They traded for a dead guy a couple years ago.

It's a good example, but I don't think it was quite at the deadline. IIRC it was during week 5...the Bears were 3-1 and on a bye week before playing in Atlanta. But close enough.

It was four days prior to the deadline.

Deadline was earlier then though. Used to be week 6. But trades are so rare in football trying to distinguish between deadline deal and regular trade is pointless.

While I'd love to get Cook, I'd rather spend resources to trade for OL at this point.

While I agree, I doubt any OL are available.

Regarding my anti-Carimi comments, while he has been disappointing this season, it's far too soon to write him off and I still think he'll be a fine RT. It does seem like his chances of being above average at LT are diminishing, though.

Although Jared Cook would be great as well. Titans are just stupid with how they use him and how rarely he plays... I think he played less than 50% of their offensive snaps in like 4 games out of 7 so far.

Biggest reason for that is Cook isn't much of a blocker. He's an absolute physical freak, but he doesn't do much blocking. The Titans actually do a pretty good job of targeting him when he's out there, but when we run the ball we need a better blocker out there - especially with how poor our line has been at run blocking the past couple of seasons.

Posted
Jared Cook would be a great upgrade that would also help with our blocking. He can be had for less then a 3rd rounder imo.

I'm not sure Cook would help anybody block better. And if the Titans trade him for less than a 3rd rounder, I'll be pretty mad. I'm not sure he's worth more than that considering he's been inconsistent, but if somebody's not willing to overpay, we need to just keep him and hope to work out an extension.

Can't wait till the Jay Cutler show gets podcasted, sounds like a good one.

"I told (Brandon Marshall) when we got into the locker room, he's like, 'They booed us.' I was like, 'I know, I would boo us too.'" Cutler said. "It was ugly, and we didn't snap out of it until 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.

Questioned again about the subject, Cutler joked, "Is this court? Are we in court right now? Are you a judge and jury?" Then the quarterback explained again that he chooses not to engage in debate about subjects referring to seemingly trivial matters such as his body language or sideline demeanor.

"I'm not going to get involved with it," Cutler said. "I can't control these things, what websites say. So we should have been booed. Rightfully so, we got booed and we have to get better. That's that."

The show today was pretty good. I like the combo of Waddle, Silvy and Jay.

To be fair to the front office, the player was not dead at the time of the trade.

I can't believe how bad Carimi has been. That wasn't supposed to happen.

I find it hard to believe that Williams was worse than Rachal. He was just terrible yesterday.

Cook would be an outstanding addition, but without a 3rd round pick I don't know that I want him (unless, you know, the Titans want to give him up for less than that.)

That's where I stand - if you can get him for a 4th round pick or lower, you make the move.

Id take Cook for a 4th. But Im also very afraid that the Bears get antsy this offseason and draft Eifert in the 1st round. Reeks of the Olsen situation of 07.

That's what Walter Football had mocked this past week in the first round.

I think they go DT or LB in the first round. The only reason why I don't think they go OL in the first is due to them selecting at the bottom of the first when all the first round LT players are off of the board. They'll be able to find a C or Guard in the second/forth round.

Now that I think of it, is it too early to start a 2013 draft thread for us draft geeks?

Cook isn't worth anything higher then a 3rd rounder. He's not done very much in the NFL and his value has taken a hit due to him wanting a trade and being in the last year of his deal. The talent and potential are there however. The Titans arent going to franchise him and will likely lose him for nothing in 10 weeks.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sheldon Richardson in a Bears uni if they go DT in the first round.

Really good fit for this D. I am assuming the Bears will re-sign Melton (should be the priority of the offseason, and would prefer it not even get that far). But even if they do, it's just him and Paea at DT. Okoye is a FA again, wasn't re-signed last year, and isn't playing as well this year. Collins has been active maybe twice. Toeina has been active against only running teams. All 3 backups could be out. Even if 1 is brought back, they still need a good 3rd. I also like Bennie Logan (LSU) and Sharrif Floyd (Florida).

If I had to guess, Id say Urlacher and/or Roach will be brought back, assuming Urlacher continues to improve. So, I don't think LB is an early pick. I think the Bears will also give Webb another shot at LT, if he continues to be not pathetic (unless they spend big on the position in free agency). And the Bears don't really value drafting interior OL early. But I wonder if they'd consider guys like Dallas Thomas or DJ Fluker who are experienced college LTs, who may wind up as NFL OGs (Thomas already playing LG for Tenn). Both would be slight reaches in the late first round, but could be worth the pick or be reason for a trade down to make up for the lost 3rd rounder.

Jay Cutler in the 1st quarter: 25 of 53 for 169 yards (3.9 ypa) with 1 TD, 4 INT and 29.5 rating

Jay Cutler in the 4th quarter: 34 of 46 for 517 yards (11.24 ypa), 6 TD, 2 INT and 132.0 passer rating.

I don't mind the pick of Eifert, but there will be quite a few TEs in FA this offseason. Keller, Cook, Dickson and Pitta (doubt Ravens will keep both since they are RFA) to name a couple. Also, there will be some OLs as well. It'll be an interesting off season for Phil Emery.

Looking at Walter Football mock draft... 2 guys that I like Bears to draft in the late first are Kawann Short (if he somehow drops and like him more than Richardson) or Barrett Jones (a rare OL who can actually play all 5 positions). Another way would be hope Manti Te'o somehow drop to mid teens then trade up to get him. I also like the trading down into the 2nd and gain a 3rd to replace the one Bears traded.

Right now it looks like OLs/TE/MLB are a priority and in that order IMO. DT could be if Melton leaves or maybe a TY Hilton type player (bring back Johnny Knox if 100% healthy??) as the speedster WR and take over for Hester's return duties whenever he's gone/cut.

I think Jermichael Finley will get cut by Green Bay also. Honestly, I think I'd take a shot at him. As much as he frustrates Packers fans, he could do it even more if he finally puts it together as a Bear. Rather spend the money at TE than an early draft pick, when the Bears have other needs.

The OT FA class is loaded this year with Jake Long, Clady, Albert and Vollmer all FAs. Be really nice to get one of them. I'd rather draft OL consistently, but I can't imagine the Bears would jettison the 24/25 year old Webb just to put a younger player in there, especially after how Williams and Carimi turned out (though that was a different GM).

I'd really like to bring in some young, early round CB talent. Tillman is going to be 32 and owed 8Mil next year. He and Jennings are FAs after 2013. Moore and Hayden are FAs after this year, so depth will be needed regardless. I agree with the desire for a speedy WR. Hester can't get off of press coverage enough to be a consistent deep threat, but that need is way down on the list of things. Should be the first year in a while the Bears won't draft a safety though, so there's that!

People need to stop making "he's a rookie" excuse for Gabe Carimi. He's one of the worst pass protecting right tackles in the game right now. That isn't expected performance, especially for a rookie drafted in the first round, at one of the easier(or less difficult) positions on the oline. It's quite possible that this is another (last thankfully) first round bust from the Jerry Angelo era.

The fact that he's "really good" as a run blocker, but "overwhelmed" in pass protection could mean his future is ticketed at guard. Boy do we really want to go down that road again?

Umm ok. He's a rookie and when using logic we can safely assume he will only improve with more reps and training camps. How many rookies play to their ceiling in the first year?

It is absolutely disgusting that Angelo couldn't draft a player in the first round to make an impact. We should have at least 2-3 more first round starters on this team from Angelo's years.

Oh man, you HAVE to take Barrett Jones if he's available. I imagine he'll be gone around 20 so the Bears won't have the chance to pick him. He should be an all-pro at G or C. I wonder if Chance Warmack will be available.

Have little interest in Eifert in the first round (not a fan of first round TEs unless they're truly elite), plus you can take a guy like Ertz if you need to.

Wish Manti Te'o had turned pro last year, I think the Bears would have their chance at him at 19. Don't think there will be any interesting MLBs in the 20s.

No, you can't really assume that. Did Chris Williams ever get better at being a left tackle? No.

I partially blame the Bears for Chris Williams. They bungled his development with coaching changes, position changes and minimal starts at LT.
