I imagine a lot of teams will touch base on Garza.

"Hey, do you want to give up your elbow-injured pitcher for nothing? We'll pick up his arbitration award. No? You want a real return? Thanks, then. Good luck!"

What could one year of a healthy Garza yield in return from the Royals? I assume they'd target pitching in return? How far has the stock dropped on Montgomery and Lamb? Are they worth pursuing? I know Lamb was injured. Montgomery was garbage this year. How far has their stock fallen and would they be worthy targets for Garza? Would KC even consider moving them?

EDIT: Question marks, much?

The Royals two best tradable pitching prospects are Jake Odorizzi and Yordano Ventura. Zimmer can't be dealt yet. Montgomery's stock dropped a ton this year and we already took a flier on a TJS guy, with Vizcaino, doubt we want another one thats yet to pitch since the surgery. Kyle's right though, Garza's going to have to pitch and pitch effectively, before a team gives up anything of value for him. If he'd take a 3-4 year extension right now, it'd probably be the best possible outcomeWe'd still have the ability to trade him, if warranted, and we'd have his best years locked in too. But I doubt he's ameniable to that right now, because if he does stay healthy in 2013, he's likely to get 100 mill on the open market from someone, or close to it at least.

I've thought the Royals to be the ideal trade candidate for quite a while. They've sated that they're looking for help for the rotation, but simply don't have the money to outbid the big market guys for the free agents. Perhaps they could land on of Marcum, Sanchez, McCarthy, or Jackson, but they'd still have a very weak rotation.

Garza would be a great fit. I wouldn't expect them to part with Odorizzi for 1 year of Garza, especially with his stock being hit by the injury. However, a deal for Montgomery or Lamb, Jeffress and perhaps Cain should be swingable, assuming that we're set on trading Garza.

The Royals evidently have 20-23 mill to spend this offseason, after arb raises. I can't see them (or anyone else, for that matter) giving up anything of value for Garza, when there are plenty of pitchers on his level, or slightly below, as FA, that are currently healthy. The Royals probably need to sign one guy like a Sanchez, Jackson, Marcum, McCarthy type and use their system to add another one in trade. Just can't see it being a guy with one year left on his deal and that has elbow issues.

Probably so, but I doubt they'll give up Myers. I could see them trading something like Odorizzi and Cuthbert(stock way down) to the Marlins for Johnson.

Seems like an awful lot for one year of Johnson given his health track record and his way down (for him) 2012.
