Guess what. That's not a penalty.

It is, it's defensive holding. Bring back the replacement refs.

Hehe, yeah.

the holding happened before the tip though, does that matter?

Yes, but the refs called the wrong penalty and I don't believe they can change it.

That's a hole in the rules, if it's the case. Pretty annoying to cost the Bears four probable points.

Truth.

I don't agree with that "sufficient distance" explanation.

In an extreme example, what if the defender shoves a receiver to the ground and then the ball is tipped from a "sufficient distance"? The receiver is still lying on the ground with no chance to catch the ball.

Well, won a fantasy game with that FG. But I was tied so an extra point would have been just as good. Especially since a TD by Forte or Bush would have gone a long way to giving me a chance in another league. 3rd league I started down 11 with having Murray and my opponent Marshall, so I'm happy to lose that one.

So yeah, ummm....

Wasn't PI because of the pass tip, but he's holding the receiver the whole play which is a penalty...

But.

We can't comprehend the concept of going from PI to defensive holding, so the Cowboys still have a chance in the game.

Definitely a hole in the rules. Shouldn't be either/or. It goes from PI to defensive holding, first & goal.

Can't challenge a penalty. It would open the door to coaches challenging holding calls.

On a somewhat related note, if Lovie didn't accept that dumbass penalty to negate a 14 yard play, the Cowboys would have 0 penalties for 0 yards called on them until the illegal shift that was just called.
