Game 2 - BEARS @ Green Bay Packers - 7:20 PM Thurs

considering how Tice neglected to cover Matthews the entire game, I'd say he forgot something

He may have come up with a stupid gameplan (he did) but I don't buy that he's negligent enough to not even think of Matthews.

I dont know about the team slowly turning on Cutler. It certainly did look bad and he really needs to step up and accept blame for throwing some horrible passes.

Either way, if this continues or if it happens again as soon as Week 4, there might be some sweeping changes and or problems.

Tell me what sweeping changes could occur.

Ultimately you have to look at coaching changes and perhaps even cutting Webb. We don't have viable backups but I don't think you can do much worse at LT then Webb.

It was reported that management told Emery he has to keep Lovie coming into this year, but if Lovie and the coaches don't get the job done furthering the embarrassment of this team then I think Emery would absolutely make a move. It makes you even wonder about them eventually moving to 3-4 with a new coach considering the decline of Urlacher and the pick of Shea.

Serious question. What is Lovie supposed to do about the LT? Chris Williams was worse at it in the preseason than Webb. Emery isn't going to fire Lovie mid season...especially "as soon as week 4". This season is what it is. Whatever "sweeping changes" are necessary won't happen until then.

I certainly think that Lovie could have applied more pressure to management about our o-line situation. I also think that he could hire a staff member that can call successful offensive plays to fit our current roster. Turner, Martz, Tice are all very uninspiring. His offensive coaches have come in and done jack [expletive] since he's been hired.

why would phil emery hold lovie responsible for not putting more pressure on phil emery to address the offensive line?

So Emery could fire Lovie for Lovie not having applied more pressure to Emery to draft an O-lineman? That's....not what I think will happen.

Lovie has not done with well with OC hires, I'll give you that. But I'm not ready to write off Tice after 2 games.

Hes not going to hold Lovie responsible, but they do have organizational meetings especially in regards to bringing in new players and also addressing off season needs. Part of the coaches job is to huddle with the GM when asked to go to these meetings and present resolutions and attention to needs.

To bring in ZERO new offensive linemen and do NOTHING about our line is gross negligence and a total complete failure on both the GM and head coach. We are taking about a tenured coach that has been here forever. He does have a voice.

But you have no idea what he said. Which makes this a very strange argument.

let's just get ireland to trade us jake long for a bunch of late picks or something. he knows he's getting fired anyway.

Probably have to pay pretty good to get Long. It's obvious we're desperate.

Well this game thread has turned into 2 Packers fans fellating themselves. .

Isn't it great?

go [expletive] yourself you giant piece of [expletive]

Yup. Great. :)

I still don't understand the psychology of someone who insists on being somewhere he knows he isn't wanted. Is there something wrong with you & chucky?

Huh? I haven't even been posting all that much in this thread.

I dont know man. To seriously bring in no new starters, draft picks or above average free agents is just crazy.

Meanwhile Lance Louis to me was the only good player on the line last night.

I agree, I just don't think Lovie can/will be the fall guy for that. Lovie's job is to get the most out of the talent he has on the field. Last night he failed to do that. There's 14 games left to play.

I'm sure Lovie has a say in personnel decisions, but is he in the draft-day warroom? Its an honest question, I dont know that he would be. Every coverage of a draft warroom that I see, I have yet to see a coach in there. its all scouts, GM's, etc.

I don't think our 1st next year gets Jake Long, nor do I think Irwland is in trouble. He's got full reign to turn that roster over and start from scratch, which is what he's doing. A GM in trouble isn't trading Marshall, Davis, and starting a rookie QB, if he's job scared.

I've seen the exact opposite. HC is in every draft room. I remember specifically this year, Pete Carroll, Belichick, etc.

He does if he's really dumb.

Citing a friend of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, the Miami Herald reports GM Jeff Ireland will be in "serious trouble" if the team "bombs" in 2012.

The Dolphins are on their way after Sunday's 20-point loss to the Texans. Per the Herald, Ross does not have "blind faith" in Ireland and would be willing to fire him if things go south. Another friend of Ross said Ireland would likely not survive if the Dolphins went 5-11 this season. As the Dolphins continue to pile up losses, expect fire-the-GM talk to become louder and louder. Ireland did an incredibly poor job of surrounding rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill with talent

Jeff Fisher, Jason Garrett, Mike Tomlin. Those are the ones I remember so far. I wanna say McCarthy is there too, but I dont know for sure.

I was just thinking about how in recent Chicago sports, things have a way of going from extreme high point to extreme low in the span of one game or one moment lately.

Examples:

-Bears start out 3-0 including wins at Dallas and against everyone's favorites the Packers on MNF, team is riding high and then the next game they play the Giants, who completely embarass the Bears offensive line, knock Cutler out of the game after sacking him 9 times, hold the Bears to 3 points in a dominating win. Fans go from feeling very good about the Bears to 'wtf'

-Bears win 5 straight in increasingly impressive fashion last year, improving to 7-3 and everyone is starting to consider the Bears a sleeper in team in the NFC. Minutes after the most recent win, its revealed Cutler broke his thumb, season over. Bears go 1-5 and miss the playoffs

-Bulls perservere through a tough, injury filled year but impressively still finish with the best record in the NBA, everyone is finally healthy for the playoffs, everyone is high on the Bulls, Rose is back and looks really good as the Bulls dismantle the 76ers. Bulls fans start anticipating a championship run and....Derrick Rose destroys his knee and it changes the fate of multiple seasons. Big high to big low

Now this. Not to say that the season is over or that the Bears cant recover from a week 2 poor performance. It's just strange how many times I've had to shift from an emotional high to a crushing low. They don't lose in a way that makes you say 'we just need to do a couple things better and we'll be ok'. We go from 'we have a big boy offense, we can be the team to beat in this division' to 'tice sucks, o-line sucks, fire lovie, wtf marshall, i hate everything' over the span of 60 minutes.

(Honorable mentions: 1) Bears crush Falcons in week 1 and everyone talks about how the Bears are legit team and a contender, then have a similar but smaller Giants game-like breakdown in NO and get beaten soundly, but the Bears obviously recovered 2) Bulls blowout the Heat in game 1 of the ECF and fans start to realistically think the Bulls can win the title this year, then lose 4 straight to end the season, but that was more like a slow painful crushing)

I remember hearing something about a Game 6 with the Cubs, but I'm not sure what happened there.
