Decided this deserved it's own thread given how freaking huge of a deal it could end up being. How the heck do the Dodgers have the prospects to pull this off?

Blockbuster: red Sox, Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA. Hurdles remain, but closing in

It's like the entire Red Sox organization stared into the Ark of the Covenant or something.

I wouldn't think they would have to give up a ton of good stuff if they are actually taking Crawford's contract, and in a smaller way, Beckett's.

Are the Dodgers about to come into a bunch of money? I know they have new owners, but is a big TV deal coming or something?

That is a TON of money to take on! I just can't even fathom this being realistic.

A core of: Kemp, Gonzalez, Ethier, Hanley, Crawford is mind blowing to think about it from where they started the year.

Honestly, if the Dodgers take on 60 mill of yearly salary in one deal, I begin to wonder if they'll have a 300 mill payroll in 5 years.

The group that bought the Dodgers paid CASH for them. Be very afraid. And yes, their new FOX deal is getting ready to hit as well.

Oh and they outbid the next highest group by like 800 mill or so, to where they didn't have to bother with the final round of bidding.

This makes a lot of sense if the new FOX deal is coming. Damn.

Has Kershaw gotten his new deal yet? I've got to imagine he's getting $200m or close to it.

Source: If #Dodgers - #RedSox blockbuster occurs -- and it is "close" -- Boston would send some cash to LA. @MLBONFOX

Holy [expletive] is this really happening?

Are people surprised that the Dodgers can start spending freely? Anyone who didn't catch on at first should have realized it when they made that ridiculous offer for that lightly regarded Cuban guy. OK not lightly regarded but he got more than Soler despite pretty much every scout saying Soler was a much better prospect.

The Red Sox still have to be getting good prospects back, right? I can't remember a team being able to dump this much salary, though.

They're getting enough talent back that I'd think it'll cost them some of the top prospects they didn't want to part with. Especially if Boston is sending cash as well.

I didn't realize Beckett was only getting $31 million over the next two seasons. I know he's way into fried chicken and stuff, but there's a really good chance he's still a 4-win pitcher. Boston would be crazy to abandon him.

Which gets Rubby off the 25 man. RT @dylanohernandez: The #Dodgers optioned Rubby De La Rosa to triple A. Called up Alex Castellanos.

Isn't Crawford on the DL? I thought players on the DL couldn't be traded.

Players on the disabled list can not be traded while they are disabled.

However:

A team may make a trade involving a player to be named at a later date.

There are two restrictions on deals involving players to be named. Any transaction made in this manor must be completed within 6 months of the initial transaction. Also the player to be named can not have played in the same league as the team he is being traded to.

A player on the disabled list can be traded as a player to be named. This happens because players on the disabled list can not be traded while they are disabled.

Gotcha. Thanks. :good:

This is really crazy. It's funny what a September collapse does to a team.

Even though the Cubs are probably going to lose 100 games this year, I bet Theo is glad he got out when he did. That's an even bigger mess than the one he took on in Chicago.
