Pretty surprised, just like when Baez went to Daytona.

Number 1 pick Almora headed to Boise (rookie ball)

Except for the fact Boise is short-season A ball, Bruce.

I've heard it referred to either way. "Rookie ball" can refer to both AZL and Boise, and "A ball" can mean Boise through Daytona.

Sure, technically it can be referred to either way. It's just that one of those ways is wrong. The NWL isn't the Pioneer League, it'a definitely not rookie ball.

I've never heard it referred to as rookie ball. The AZL is rookie ball and A- is low A or short season ball.

See all my previous comments about Bruce Levine now knowing a damn thing about Chicago baseball beyond what he reads in the paper.

Is there much of a difference in level between the GCL and the NWL, for instance? Part of me sees it as semantics, because not every team has a Rookie League team AND a Short Season League team, as some just have two Rookie levels instead.

Buxton just got moved from one Rookie league team to another and it was considered a promotion somehow. So I do wonder how much more advanced the NWL is, for instance, over the Appalachian League possibly? Because if there is a fairly significant difference, the teams without a Short season team therefore should run into more issues developing players, since they basically HAVE to skip a level, from Rookie League to A Ball.

"He has done a real nice job the last week to 10 days,” said team president Theo Epstein. “For him, it was really a matter of getting his timing down. He's got a leg kick a pretty significant leg kick, and sometimes those guys have to see a lot of live pitching to get their timing locked in. He's been driving the ball all over the field recently. We think he's pretty advanced for an 18-year-old. So it's a good time to move him."
