Gotta say, it will be pretty cool seeing these guys reach the majors after having followed them this early, assuming they make it. This'll be a first for me.

It'll be a first for a lot of us that have followed the Cubs. I just remember how excited I was about guys like Choi, Hill, Kelton, Montanez, etc.....and that didn't work out the way I was hoping. LOL.

The minor league thread here is what got me to change sites a few years back. It's such an important part of an organization and way too many still don't get it.

Paniagua, Johnson, Blackburn, Underwood, Maples... No clue what any will be but a royals area scout just told me that talent wise, it's as much of a 12 month influx as any team has had in the past five years... And that's prior to any prospects received via trade...

Love it.

Yeah, I really enjoy the minor league thread too. I like the scouting reports that guys post on here too.

The Cubs farm system had been bad for so long, it was probably difficult to get people interested in following it.

That is definitely encouraging when you hear a scout from another team make positive comments like this.

why was soler removed for a pinch hitter?

No clue why, but they said before the game he was just going to get 3 at bats.

Probably just because it was his debut - he was probably scheduled to get 3 at bats. (We'd have heard on Twitter if he was hurt.)

traded with dempster and vitters (didn't play tonight) for zach lee and matt kemp.

I think the Cubs got Koufax and Drysdale in the deal too.......

Mesa is in extras. If they end up losing, the farm system will go 0-8 today.

On Soler:

@JesseSanchezMLB: “@Drew_Urban: Whats your review?”~Im no scout & don't pretend to be one. But looked very good for not having played in a year. Hit ball hard

Soler, Almora sharing digs and a big league dream

"I'm very proud to have signed with the Cubs," said the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Soler. "I like this team and am very happy they signed me. Clearly, I want to play in the Major Leagues. I don't know how much time I need here. It's up to [management], but that's my goal."

The short-term plan for Soler, who served as the designated hitter on Thursday, is to play the outfield on Saturday. The long-term plan is to play in the big leagues, but the club is not ready to set a timetable.

David, based on this story, Almora is definitely of Cuban descent.
