Soler, Almora sharing digs and a big league dream

"I'm very proud to have signed with the Cubs," said the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Soler. "I like this team and am very happy they signed me. Clearly, I want to play in the Major Leagues. I don't know how much time I need here. It's up to [management], but that's my goal."

The short-term plan for Soler, who served as the designated hitter on Thursday, is to play the outfield on Saturday. The long-term plan is to play in the big leagues, but the club is not ready to set a timetable.

David, based on this story, Almora is definitely of Cuban descent.

Cool. Thanks!

Arizona Phil pointed out there was a mistake in the Mesa box score last night and Blackburn only threw 1 inning and Amlung followed throwing the next 2 (last night, all 3 innings were credited to Blackburn). MiLB.com finally updated their box score:

SP P. Blackburn 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 2-0 GO-FO

RP J. Amlung 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-1 GO-FO

The Cub Reporter[/url]"]Soler hit a two-bouncer to the shortstop on a 2-1 pitch leading-off the bottom of the 2nd, a one-bouncer back to the pitcher on the first pitch he saw leading off the bottom of the 5th, and lined-out to the pitcher on a 3-2 pitch with no outs and a runner at 1st in the bottom of the 7th (the runner was doubled off 1st base for a DP) after taking a close 2-2 pitch just off the outside corner for ball three. Soler was removed for a PH in the bottom of the 9th. (He was pre-scheduled to get just three AB in the game and then be replaced).

Not surprising considering he had a month or two off:

@keithlaw: Fastball off. 86-88. "@jayrigdon5: @keithlaw How did Blackburn look?"
