The Dodgers got Blanton for a PTBNL. Probably a better fit than Dempster for them. More importantly, they put a claim in on Cliff Lee. Those guys are going to become the Yankees, as far as spending goes. Doubtful they pull off a trade for Lee, but the bottom line is they were willing to absorb 27 mill a year for him. Time to be afraid of them.

I can't imagine the contract they would've offered Hamels in the offseason if he didn't resign with the Phillies. I'm guessing they will be offering Greinke something crazy instead.

Zobrist doesn't seem like the type to get dealt in August. Wouldn't pass thru and Tampa probably would want multiple teams involved, to get tge most for him. This one's weird.

Everyone think we're done now? Or solid chance at seeing Marmol or Soriano still moved? No clue who Sori is willing to approve a trade to, but teams like Tampa and Pittsburgh could sure use him for the stretch run. Marmol's pitched very well over the last month or so too, so if we're eating plenty of money, I could still see us getting back a pretty intriguing package for either personally.

Soriano and Marmol have cleared waivers.

The Angels are reportedly looking for bullpen help. When you're offense includes of Pujols, Trout, Trumbo, Morales, and Hunter and a rotation of Weaver-Greinke-Haren-Wilson, there should be no excuse to be a fringe contender.

Athletics acquired SS Stephen Drew from the Diamondbacks for INF Sean Jamieson.

The A's were mentioned as a possible landing spot for Drew before the non-waiver trade deadline last month, but a deal never materialized. However, shortstop has continued to be an area of need for Oakland. Drew is batting just .193/.290/.311 with two home runs, 12 RBI and a .601 OPS in 40 games since coming off the disabled list in late June, but he should represent an upgrade. The 29-year-old's contract includes a $10 million mutual option for 2013 or a $1.35 million buyout.

Padres put Volquez on waivers. Any chance the Cubs are interested, or did Dusty ruin him beyond recovery?

He is only under team control through next year and would probably make $4ish million through arbitration. If he had an extra year or two of team control it might be worth it but he's probably looked at as too short term of an asset to acquire for a team that likely will be as good as we are this year, next year.

He's also a big pile of hot garbage, so there's that.

Yeah, I hadn't looked up his numbers in a while. He's one of those guys that had a good year and for some reason, I just kept assuming he was good. I'm not sure how much of that is Dusty lingering and how much of that was a fluke good season.

He started out doing well this season, but he's turned back into the crap pitcher he pretty much is. I'm sure the park factor played a big part in that... but if you're in San Diego and you're still putting up an ERA+ of 87 you're probably no worth taking a look at., IMO

Not sure where else to put this, but the Red Sox reportedly placed Adrian Gonzalez on waivers and has been claimed by the Dodgers. Pretty crazy.

Can they even afford him after picking up Cliff Lee?

?? I know they claimed him, but I thought the Phillies pretty much said they won't trade him, no?
