The Detroit deal sucks on multiple levels for us. First, a prime suitor for Garza is out. Plus, Miami is now in sell-off mode and that puts Johnson ON the market as well. Hopefully, Hamels signs his extension, Greinke sucks, and Garza pitches before Tuesday.

The Red Sox tried to re-acquire him at least once (I want to say I remember them trying more than once) when Theo ran the show there. So I think our FO likes him, whether or not they think he could fit into the plan here or if we have guys that would interest the Marlins is another stroy.

Which is all the more reason to be pissed off we had a trade called off for our 36 year old FA to be pitcher who is probably around the 5th best available option for an organizational top 3 and MLB top 50 prospect guy

Technically, nothing's been called off. I'm hopeful that this still gets resolved before he pitches tomorrow, one way or another.

it sucks that teams like the brewers, marlins,phillies, red sox and even the diamondbacks, who all expected to compete, have fallen apart and now are possibly flooding a "presumed" slow market with starting pitchers and closers, places where we may have been able to get something more simply because the options were few. now you have hammels,greinke, johnson, bell, street, even kennedy, shields and cliff lee are names out there.

 

upton, victorino, hunter pence and logan morrison are bats that are possibly available not too mention ichiro and youkolis already being moved.

 

in the first year of the extra wild card, when so many teams were going to feel they were still in it, it's terrible luck that the wires are seeming flooded with possibilities!
