You think the 3 year DSL guy is going to fly through Mesa and Boise in less than a year?

When a 20 year old in year 3 of DSL guy is doing as well as he has this year, you have to figure if he's going to ever be relevant, he might need to be pushed a bit more agressively. He'd certainly be age appropriate for Peoria. While the power's down since his initial surge, the rest of the numbers are still there.

2 questions:

1. Is DSL SS ready to join the ranks of our young, high ceiling middle infield prospects such as Amaya, Hernandez and Alcantara? Baez left out because he's on a whole different level

2. How close is Carlos Martinez, who will be 17 tomorrow, to being considered our top pitching prospect?

Carlos Rodriguez, the DSL pitcher turns 17 tomorrow. Carlos Martinez is a 21-year old Cuban defector. Are you really suggesting either is in a conversation to be the organization's top pitching prospect?

Also, I'm not sure who you're referring to in the first question.

The DSL kid. It's really more testement to the weakness of our pitching prospects. Who knows if Wells will pitch in 2013. McNutt seems to be in some type of limbo. Whitenack, though coming off TJS still needs to re-prove himself. Maples has yet to do anything but collect a hefty bonus. Rodriquez has done more than Johnson, Blackburn or Underwood. And with the possible exception of Nick Struck, the rest of our starting pitching prospects seem to fall somewhere between Casey Coleman and Randy Wells.

The DSL is probably no better than U.S. high school baseball. I disagree that Johnson, Blackburn and Underwood have done less than Rodriguez. You have to take DSL results with a massive grain of salt and also consider how far away the DSL is from the big leagues. Thats why BA ranked Candelario outside of the Cubs top 10 despite his big bonus and great season at age 17 last year.

Then, if you see Rodriguez's scouting report, you see that his stuff is well behind those three. The only report I have on Rodriguez is from when he signed a year ago so it might be outdated but I can't imagine his stuff has jumped that much.

ETA: Jose Rosario, Michael Jensen and Tayler Scott are all pitching prospects who have been healthy and pitched professionally this year at an age appropriate level higher than Carlos Rodriguez with promising scouting reports.

Encarnacion could easily be cut this offseason with a mediocre showing at instructs (if he's invited).

are they playing that team again tonight? if so he's going to get hit.

Yeah, Boise's PBP guy guessed as much in his blog this morning.

Just hope it isn't too close to the head or hit his hands. He smoked that ball though.

yeah hopefully it's just a plunking in the back and they're done with it. i wouldn't really have a problem with him getting hit, either. it's fine that he was excited, but it sure looked like he was showing the other team up and taunting the opposing players (maybe the pitcher?) between second base and home. not a big fan of the unwritten codes, but this seemed over the line.
