i remember les lancaster having some sick string of scoreless innings pitched back in 1989. i think he hit 30, but he was a reliever.

Same year as the record was set?

What they've been doing is fun, but for the rest of the year your goals have to change. It will still be fun to watch Castro, Shark, Wood and Rizzo develop and to see growth out of whoever we get back and Jackson and Vitters when they get to Wrigley. Not about Wins anymore, but individual advancement

My "goals" don't have to change at all because I'm just a guy watching baseball games. What a weird thing to say.

I think 1988 was when the record was set.

if he's talking about the cub record then maybe lancaster's streak was 44. maybe i'm confusing that with walton's 30 game hitting streak.

Did Demp get a nive standing O after the 6th or anything? Or did the crowd figure he would come back out for the 7th?

He didn't. Like you said, I think most assumed he'd be back out.

Not the first time I've been called weird. . .

Seriously, just meant that with the team in "sell" mode, they have obviously decided that replenishing the system and developing those players is the goal of the season - not a world series. Obviously the guys on the field are going to be trying to win every game - and I'll want them to win every game. But the devlopment of those pieces (both the ones that already here and the ones on the way) is more important in the "grand scheme." So my point was, since Ws are going to be hard to find, we can enjoy progress being made, even if the daily results aren't what we'd like.
