You never heard of Chuck Garfien? He was probably the most well known "talent" to originally join CSN Chicago, as he was an ESPN and ESPNews anchor for a few years before going to CSN. He's all over the White Sox beat now.

Yea. He's awful. I don't understand how these stations pick these people and think, "Yea, that guy is enjoyable to watch and won't annoy anybody."

 

Is the ability to speak on TV without stumbling and mumbling so rare that you hire guys who can do that but can't say anything smart and are annoying as [expletive]?

I recognized Schanowski from something but couldn't figure out where. His bio had him as a nobody in Chicago media until after I left Chicago so I must have just seem him on random newscasts when I was back home.

Probably. Have you ever sat through an entire espnews segment? Those people can barely even do the speaking without stumbling part, let alone avoid being annoying. But most people freeze up on TV.

I couldn't agree with this more. Except the Chicago accent part. Haven't really noticed that.

 

I assume that's because you live there. I am long gone and the accent is more noticeable every time I hear it. It's got to be really hard for somebody like her to get a gig outside Chicago because it is so pronounced.
