PHOENIX – The highly anticipated callup of Cubs top prospect Anthony Rizzo won’t happen in the next few days, and not in Arizona, Cubs manager Dale Sveum said before Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Sveum wouldn’t give any kind of timetable on the arrival of Rizzo, who is raking down at Class AAA Iowa, batting .350 with 23 home runs, 17 doubles and 59 RBI.

Asked if Rizzo, a first baseman, could be in pinstripes during the next homestand, which starts Monday, Sveum remained non-committal.

“I don’t know if there’s a date on it,” Sveum said. “It’s obvious he’s coming soon but we don’t have a date yet.”

He just says stuff. Everyone should realize that by now. Based on Sveum's comment, I still think there's a chance he'll be here for next weekend.

Oh look...Bruce Levine was full of carp! Whooda thought? Keep suckin the teet.

Nothing in those quotes disproves what Bruce said. Dale said they don't have a date on it, Monday could still be the day like Levine mentioned.

Way to go out on a limb.

Bruce mentioned quite a few times this week on Waddle and Silvy that he expected Rizzo to be up no later than Sunday. He usually followed that up by saying he has no inside information on this, thats just what he thought. The guy knows no more than me or you.

I like you ask that like you just assume everyone else is miserable if they go to a Cubs game this year. So help me higher power, I hope you get clobbered by a foul ball right in the nuts the next time you go.

I know that people talk about there being no need to rush him, but could the opposite be true? I know that people won't hesitate to tell me if this is a stupid concern, but the more time he spends feasting on PCL pitching in PCL ballparks, isn't he more likely to approach big league pitching the same way, which isn't going to work out for him? Really, just a way of saying that now that service time is no longer an issue, wouldn't it be in everyone's best interests to start exposing him to big league pitching, and if he struggles, this is the season to be patient and let him learn.

Dude, he's coming up soon. Just because you aren't watching him hit a zillion home runs in a cub uniform right now this very instant doesn't mean that the cubs are being too patient with him. Jeez, give it a day or two.

I'm not saying that he needs to come up yesterday. I'm saying that at this point, it's no longer considered rushing him and there's really no reason not to call him up.

Who was worried about rushing him? We've been counting down the days til the service time date was clear for months.

Will be funny to see which wild-guessing media meatball is right on the date. I think they've all guessed 4-5 different days now.

The banner on Cubs postgame says, "Report: Rizzo to be called up on Tuesday".

I'm not sure whether that is accurate or where they got their info, but that is what they are going with.

With Niese due to start Wednesday and possibly 3 lefties to start for Houston this weekend, what are the chances Sveum sits Rizzo for the "lefty killer" Baker in any of those 4 games? Sveum really does like to play the lefty-righty matchup.

Sveum has been plenty willing to play guys they consider everyday players like Stewart and DeJesus against LHP. They aren't going to promote Rizzo just to platoon him.

Bring him up and then don't play him unless the stars align each game?

lol. It's an innocent joke that has been said many times and will be said many more times whenever anyone talks about going to see a bad baseball team.
