rubi silva is a solid 10-for-27 in stolen bases in his cub career.

Well, Silva did just hit a walk off HR for Daytona.

Solid debut for Archer for TB tonite. 6 inn 2er 7ks 82 pitches 49 strikes. It looks like I was right when I said we should've given up McNutt instead. Archer was the first pitcher in the last 235 games to start a game for Tampa that wasn't drafted by Tampa

You were so right, especially since you know exactly what Tampa wanted in return. Jesus christ

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully it's an opening day, working out the kinks situation.

Cates: 3 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K

Nice K/BB but he's still getting hit a bit.

What is the thought on Brooks Raley? He had a great outing for Iowa tonight (7 IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 7 K's), turns 24 this month, and has been pretty successful at nearly ever level. His ERA coming into tonight's start wasn't great (5.93) but that could have been attributed to some bad luck (.373 BABIP) and his FIP was a more respectable 4.59. His ERA is down to 4.72 after his start tonight.

Obviously he isn't going to be a TOR pitcher. He has always had low-ish K/9 numbers, and low BB/9 walk numbers, but do you think he has a chance to be a decent 4/5 in the rotation at some point?

Is Vogelbach hurt?

No idea. I feel like that was a Dusty lineup, Vogelbach is out but the backup 1B still bats cleanup.

Raley has been a notoriously low-K guy. But in 3 of his last four games, he's been:

7K/1BB/7IP (tonight)

6K/0BB/7IP

8K/1BB/5IP.

Not so good in one of the other starts. But it seems to be becoming not so rare to have some good-K games. Obviously pitchers are all inconsistent, so if we only look at the good games and ignore the bad games can makes anybody look good.

But I do kind of wonder whether he hasn't come up with something breaking-ball wise that is getting K's. IN this hypothesis, some days he's got it working, and that's becoming more common recently, but not always.

Candelario with a homer.

First state-side HR.

Dunston has a double and Amaya a triple too. Amaury Paulino having a good outing: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K.

The AZL Cubs are going with a bunch of rehabbers and guys whose mechanics are being fixed and would otherwise not be in the AZL. First Cates, followed by Zach Rosscup (who was stellar) and now Shane Lindsay is in.

is cates one of the guys whose mechanics are being fixed? he was God awful in daytona.

i pretty much know nothing about shane lindsay, but he's 27 years old and appears to have bounced around quite a bit. and his walk numbers are appalling.

Also, I was the kiss of death for Paulino. He gave up 2 more and couldn't finish his 4th inning.
