Baez crushes a HR!

Sorry, wrong thread. ;)

I cant believe how terrible the field has looked. By far the worst I've seen it after any of the concerts. Then again, its been by far the closest time between concert and game ever (I believe).

Wow Starlin coming up to bat with his average at .299. Not used to seeing that.

And he gets a bloop hit to get back over .300 :)

Just looked this up...since July 21st of his rookie season (2010), Starlin has entered a game with a BA under .300 just 8 times. If you remove the first week of the season when BA's vary wildly from game to game, that number jumps down to 3 times. His BA on those 3 times were .299, .299, .296

And we're tied again.

The silver lining is that those runs are all unearned, so Garza's ERA will stay down for trading purposes.

Too many Tigers fans there.

Yesterday I took a walk with my dogs in the general vicinity of the ballpark and when I left the score was 3-0 Cubs. During the walk I heard several very loud cheers, most within a 5-10 minute span. I figured the Cubs had somehow tacked on a bunch more and expected to see a 6-0 game or something. I get back home and turn the game back on and its actually 3-3.

Garza is pretty overrated by a lot of people here

lol

here, a majority of MLB GMs, both statistical and mainstream baseball writers. But the rest think he's a bum.

I go back and forth on Garza being overrated.

He's 31st in MLB in xFIP for qualified pitchers, and 57th in FIP.

That's usually around good enough to be the best starting pitcher on the market at the trading deadline. But I still feel weird confidently expecting to get a top prospect for a guy with a 4.16 ERA.

R.A. Dickey has thrown 25 consecutive scoreless innings

Final line: 9IP, 1H, 0BB, 0ER, 12K, 106 pitches.

A run scored in the 9th on a throwing error, followed by 2 passed balls and an RBI groundout.

I'm not saying he's an ace, and I don't think most people are treating him like such. His value is as a good number 2 on a contender, who has a history of pitching (well) in the playoffs and has had success in the supposed toughest division in baseball. He's relatively young and under your control for another year.

He's not having the best year this year, but I don't see any reason why we won't get a top prospect for him if we play our cards right.

Anyone know what's up with Pat Hughes?

I just read on SBnation that Bill James said the most similar case to Starlin Castro's career so far is Gary Templeton. I really hope Castro doesn't go that route.

But if you look at his career, he was a guy that started out at age 20, and hit for a high average his first 3-4 years with a couple of 200 hit seasons. However, he never developed the power he showed flashes of at the beginning of his career, and his OBP was always very poor. The result? A career OPS+ of 87.

Starlin's power is already better than Templeton's ever was.
