According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Cubs are telling teams that "nearly everyone but starter Jeff Samardzija is available."

Apparently club president Theo Epstein is open to moving Starlin Castro as well. Castro "can be obtained for two impact prospects," according to Nightengale.

He has to be talking out of his ass on Castro.

Let's trade a 21 year old 4-5 WAR player for two guys, one of which in our wildest dreams might actually become a 4-5WAR 21 year old.

I'd be more open to trading Samardzija than I would Castro.

"Two impact prospects" can mean a lot of things.

For example, if the Orioles offered Bundy and Machado for Castro, I couldn't get the paperwork in fast enough. It all depends upon your definition of "impact."

Hahahaha.

You better get a Justin Upton type player in return to even think about it, even then I probably wouldn't do it. The only way you even consider trading a young player like Starlin is if you get multiple young established MLB players like Starlin in return.

I'm not even sure I'd do that.

What Castro is doing and has done is absurdly rare.

Maybe they feel his plate discipline is unlikely to improve?

Still, considering his age and outstanding hit-tool (not to mention improving defense) he's valuable even if he never really learns to walk.

Yeah I wouldn't do it either. Castro had much better numbers than Machado in AA. As for Bundy, he's only thrown a handful of professional innings, and the track record for high school pitchers that throw as hard as he does isn't great.

Yeah, I'm not doing that either. Unless one of the prospects is Trout or Harper, there's not many prospects packages that would even make me flinch on Castro.

The only real problem is how susceptible to BABIP luck his overall value is. If the steals and the defense remain a thing, those help a lot.

TT, you're not doing anything constructive, run into the archive and find more of these.

Again with this [expletive].

Or maybe Bob Nightengale has no damn clue what he's talking about.

If I'm trading Castro, I want a productive pre-arbitration player with room to improve(so not Darwin Barney) and a Top 25 prospect in the game at the bare minimum. Something on the order of Lawrie/D'Arnoud or Moustakas/Myers, as a starting point.

This is very exciting. I seriously doubt Starlin will go, but to float him is great to see.

[expletive] what the [expletive] is wrong with you people??

Ok, spaz.

(22-year-old) Castro is on pace for 5.5 WAR, so just imagine what happens when he starts walking some and hitting for more power (both are absolute certainties)

My apologies. I didn't realize speculating about a hypothetical situation that's never going to happen, especially when fans have no impact on the likelihood (or lack thereof) of said situation even occurring, was so offensive. I will go back to adhering to the unwritten rules of baseball message board fandom.
