Jackson put the ball in play again, grounding out to 2B. Hopefully something is clicking. He missed the first 4 pitches he swung at today (not including missing on a bunt attempt), but now has made contact with the last 2 he has swung at. Hey, I'm grasping at this point!

Grasp away. I'm all for it.

@ChiTribRogers SS Javier Baez, the Cubs' 2011 1st-rd pick, is close to being assigned to low-A Peoria out of ext. spring. Rob Whitenack to Daytona soon.

Is that surprising? I thought he was going to end up in Boise.

I'm a bit surprised that they don't want him to improve his patience before getting the promotion. I'm also very curious what happens with Marco.

Seems like the timing sets up to send Hernandez to extended spring training for 2 weeks and then open at Boise instead of Baez. I think something similar happened to Junior Lake when he struggled at Peoria a few years ago.

At first glance, low-A looked like Iowa, and I was skeptical but intrigued.

Can't wait for both.

If this is a Marco demotion, I don't get the timing of it. There was definitely reasons that could explain why he struggled in the first month (cold weather). He had turned the corner. Sure, the power and OBP have been in the past 10, but he has been making contact. Seems like odd timing when a kid seems to have found his stride and was, by most accounts, doing solid defensive work.

If this is a Marco promotion (doubtful ... Alcantara isn't going up to AA ... but I guess we can't completely rule it out) ... I don't get it either.

If this is Marco to 2nd ... I don't get it either. If this is Baez to 3rd, I don't get it either.

Seems like Marco to XST and Boise is the most realistic option on the table ... and I just don't get the timing of it. If they did it a month ago, no one would've blinked an eye. In the grand scheme of things, I can't complain. Much as I like Marco, Javier should have priority. A part of me wonders about Javier and Marco both being at Peoria, with them sharing SS, and Javier dabbling at 3rd and Marco dabbling at 2nd.

Rebel Ridling seems to have remembered that he's a giant human being and hit his 4th HR since Sunday.

Junior Lake scored ahead of the 2-run shot after hitting a hard single to the opposite field.

From the "shocking" department: Torreyes with a hit.

From the "not-so-shocking" department: Alcantara with an error.

Torreyes' numbers are insane. For a dude that hasn't hit all season, he's gotten even worse with a 2 for 49 month of May. That's good for a whopping .135 OPS. But he has only struck out 1 time this entire month after 7 Ks in April where he hit .230.

I wonder if it's possibly about to become a situation where Baez, Marco, and Darvill all 3 have shots at SS, but also play some 2nd and 3rd as well. Doesn't seem ideal to me, but it doesn't make sense to me to send Marco down, once he's gotten back to hitting.

Agreed with toonster - the timing of a demotion for Hernandez would be very peculiar.

Well, Rosario got shelled, Alcantara, Szczur each got a hit (and Rohan homered), to bring Daytona back in it.

Struck's getting hammered, but Lake has a hit and a run in the early-goings.

Szczur also with a walk. I like the increased discipline from several prospects.

It'd be really nice if Baez made it to Peoria in time for their series with Kane County next weekend.

.

Don't worry, I'll try to remember Micah Hoffpauir and Jake Fox when he's 32 and OPSing 1.600 in Iowa.

It'll be easier with Rizzo crushing balls over the fences in Wrigley.

I like that as the season goes on new names are becoming more Common to talk about.

Raley went 5 today for Iowa...6 H...5 R/ 3 ER...3 BB/ 4 K...1 HR....At least he picked up some Ks.

Vitters went 3-4 with a double...up to .267 with the batting average...maybe his OBP is over .300.

Vitter's double just missed being a homer, according to I-Cubs twitter... if anyone cares.
