Maybe if Gomez had just run after making contact instead of admiring his warning track fly ball...

Maybe pitchers should be glad when hitters do this as it can only help them and certainly can't hurt them.

I have no idea how Cole being a jerk absolves Gomez of anything. He has some serious anger management issues and that was on full display.

It's good fun to watch a non-Cub explode in anger on the field, so I see no problem with Gomez going all crazy n' stuff.

Carlos Gomez is a lunatic.

He has a tendency to admire his home runs, and I get why Cole was a little peeved, but Cole could've just ignored it and been happy with the fact Gomez looked stupid admiring a ball in play. Had Gomez been hustling out of the gate it would've been an inside-the-parker instead of a triple. Gomez wouldn't have gone crazy if Cole didn't nag him into it

Reference for those wondering: http://m.mlb.com/video/v32232541/milpit-benches-clear-after-gomez-triples-in-the-3rd/?query=carlos+gomez

Finally watched this; that was great. [expletive] Cole.

[expletive] gomez. he gets to do bat flips and pose for his non-homerun, but cole can't give him [expletive] about it when the ball doesn't leave the park?

this isn't one of those "HEY THAT FIERY LATINO NEEDS TO CONTROL HIS EMOTIONS AND PLAY THE GAME THE RIGHT WAY" arguments. i'm fine with gomez bat flipping and posing, but i'm also fine with cole telling him he's a [expletive] clown for admiring his triple.

he still hit a triple. Those are cool.

Winner = Gomez

well he did react like a psychopath, start a bench clearing brawl and get himself ejected...

again, fine with him flipping the bat and posing. also fine with cole being like "nice bat flip idiot." gomez can't do that stuff on a non-homerun and expect to catch zero [expletive] for it.

It wasn't until the third man in from Pittsburgh upped the ante that a brawl started. Also, being like "nice bat flip idiot" is probably not what Cole was like.

Cole gave up a triple then whined like a baby about unwritten rule nonsense. He's the loser.

gomez comes off the base at cole as soon as cole says something and starts to walk away. if gomez stays on the base, the benches don't empty. gomez is the reason the benches emptied.

so gomez gets to talk [expletive], but cole doesn't. got it.

he didn't talk [expletive] until [expletive] was talked to him.

his bat flip and posing counts as talking [expletive]. again, no problem with his posing and bat flipping. no problem with cole calling him on it.

and if you think cole's comments to him were about baseball's unwritten rules and and NOT "hey nice bat flip on a triple, jackass," I don't know what to tell you.

Whining about a bat flip is whining about an unwritten rule.

That flip is not talking [expletive]. It is an immediate emotional response expressing his enjoyment for a well hit ball, just like a million other emotional responses in sports. Cole's response was not an immediate response. He let the fact that he gave up a triple get the best of him and he fell back on the unwritten rule nonsense to justify his behavior.

One guy celebrated doing something good, one guy whined about being upstaged. The winner is clear.

jersey must be bored at work.

both guys talked [expletive], gomez lost his cool (per usual) causing the benches to clear...i'd give gomez the benefit of doubt but he's done this kind of thing before...he can dish it out, but cannot take it.

There's nothing for him to take, he's the one who hit the triple.

Only the fuddy duddy whiners care about this unwritten rule nonsense.

Disagree; if Cole is still pitching when Gomez comes up again and he gets him out and then eyeballs him or some [expletive], fine. I just don't look as stuff like that as mouthing off to someone same as actually saying [expletive] to them, though that's just a semantics thing.

i just like it when dudes that aren't on my team act crazy so in fact gomez owns and cole owns. they both own

they both need to clean the sand out.....whatever Cole said was probably 10% as bad as NFL guys say to each other on every damn play.

That was hardly a cadillac trot. He watched it for a quick second, and ran. If you want to say he should be embarrassed for thinking it was gone, ok. I guarantee that every team will have a guy grand stand much, much worse than that.

He should have done nothing more than bark back at Cole.

He would have had the last laugh because he blasted Cole and his team won.

I maintain that very few pitchers actually care that batters pimp their homers (or long doubles and triples); they're just pissed they gave up an XBH and feel like it's better to get mad at the batter for showing off rather than getting a hit off him. Basically, I mostly blame Cole for talking to him in the first place.

For once I agree with neely; based on the talk before I watched it I thought Gomez was going to be Moonwalking down the line while pointing at Cole the whole time. All he did was strut a bit, and hell, he didn't even hop as much as Sammy.
