Like, imagine the 08 Cubs if we could've had a DH in that lineup.

Actually, just sticking Edmonds at DH and actually letting Pie play would've been sort of interesting.

Cubs pitchers out OPS the next best team by 88 points and were 47.7% better than the rest of the NL pitchers. The DH probably would not have helped the 2008 Cubs at all.

what i mean is we might have actually had the best OPS in baseball instead of the second best despite being an NL team

because awesome

I take much greater pleasure in the team's record being good than statistical rankings, and given the Cubs huge advantage over NL teams in OPS from the pitcher's spot I do not think a DH would have helped them achieve a better record.

So, not awesome.

wait, i can't remember now..we might've actually had the best OPS and been 2nd in runs scored.

either way, that team = awesome

1 Texas .816

2 Boston .805

3 CHCubs .797

4 Detroit .784

5 St. Louis .783

Almost .800 as a team. Good God.

seriously how much more fun would it be to watch baseball with a guy whose only value is his bat in the game instead of watching what it's like for a person off the street to face major league pitching

Pitchers currently take 5% of NL plate appearances, and basically zero in high leverage/late inning situations, so, not much?

5% is plenty...and the DH would still be taking more than that assuming he's not the worst hitter in the lineup.

Plus it's not simply a matter of the pitcher not hitting; it's also taking way PA's from the humps that take up space on the bench.

Brandon Phillips wins Gold Glove over #Cubs Darwin Barney

More disappointed in Goldschmidt winning it over Rizzo tbh

Gold Gloves don't affect who wins games, so I'm Jay Cutler on this.

Goldschmidt actually deserved it, so I can't be too disappointed about that.

How did he deserve it any more than Phillips (both of whom didn't)?

Crap, just realized that I sorted those incorrectly. Oh well, still has the info.

That was, indeed, an interesting read. But...

I didn’t even know that the Dodgers had originally played in Brooklyn

How can you grow up with a love of the game, surrounded by nothing but people who live the sport, and not know this?

That is kind of crazy.

Sort of reminds me of when Ryan Tannehill said he didn't know "all the conferences and divisions and stuff" in the NFL on Hard Knocks in the film room.

I think it makes a lot of sense that somebody would love playing a sport but not know where one team played during the Eisenhower Administration. He wasn't "surrounded by nothing but people who live the sport", considering he said his parents knew nothing about baseball.

He knew who Wally Pipp was though?
