And it was because of both of them that in 1999 my interest in the Cubs began waning and my interest in the rival Cardinals increased. What seemed like unthinkable thoughts began crossing my mind: could I stop being a Cubs fan? Could I actually switch loyalties and become a Cardinals fan? In 2000, I decided the answer to both of those questions was yes. Much harassment from my Cubs fans friends and family members ensued. My uncle Jim, a lifelong Cardinals fan, was and remains my ally — and we’ve pretty much gotten the last laugh thanks to 2006 and 2011.

elias once sent me a super long message berating me on youtube because i made fun of him about edmonds joining the cubs. he said edmonds was born a cardinal and we would never appreciate him. what an interesting guy.

elias' thoughts on game 3. note that he posted nothing about the wins in games 2/4 but went on multiple-post tirades after both series losses. he's like aramis fan in a game thread, except deeply in need of medication.

I know the Cardinals are up 2-0 in this best of 7 NLCS, but I am telling you, if they don't win this game, they don't win this series.

This is one of the most inexcusable postseason games I have ever watched the Cardinals play. Wainwright has obviously not had nearly what he had in the Division Series, but there is no reason the Dodgers should have scored off of him yet. Terrible defense, horrible base running, a less-than-stellar approach at the plate. You had a chance the bury the Dodgers, and you've held the door wide open for them to come back in.

That was one of, if not the worst, postseason games I have ever watched. This series is going to ultimately go to the Dodgers. I truly believe that.

Thoughts on game 5:

Nice to see the 2013 version of a Cardinals' collapse after a 3-1 series lead is underway. There is no excuse for not winning this game. You had Greinke on the ropes, and you didn't do a damn thing with it. Pathetic and depressing.

Elias Coblentz Anyone who thinks the Cardinals' have a shot to finish off this series with the offense hitting the way it is is out of their mind. Pathetic.

"We're down two runs in the 8th in a game we know we kinda have to win, considering the two guys the Dodgers are gonna throw against us if we get back to St. Louis. I thought it would be a really opportune time to let Edward Mujica come into the game so he could eliminate any chance we had of winning today. Ya know, I'm just a big fan of choking in a series you led three games to one." - Mike Matheny

That game, in many ways, was worse than the Game Four loss. In Game Four, they just didn't have their heads there. Today, they had the BASES LOADED WITH NOBODY OUT IN THE FIRST INNING, a chance to bury the Dodgers, and they let them off the hook. They had two runs in and runners at the corners with one out, and Molina (who was the HERO with the bat today!) grounded into ANOTHER double play! They went to their worst relievers (Mujica and Axford), at a time they needed to hold the score at a two (and then three) run deficit, and they both gave up home runs. Molina and Freese both tried to smash the ball 5,000 feet in the 9th instead of just trying to reach base, and Mike Matheny decided that Adron [expletive] Chambers was the best option to pinch-hit with the game on the line instead of Shane Robinson. They have lost two games in this series that they could have, and should have, won. The Dodgers are winning this thing, and then I'm going to personally choke Mike Matheny and David Freese.

oh wow, my sister lives in Boone, IA and I've been there many times. It seems like the perfect area for a guy like him. Maybe I'll run into him sometime.

Wait, who is this Elias guy and where did he come from?

I could only handle 3 seconds of his voice.

Elias is basically the stereotypical Cardinal fan.

he sounds like the type of guy that would yell "OH COME ON, ADAM" at the tv when wainright gave up a bloop single

No, I'm fairly certain he's the type of guy who goes into a profanity laced tirade when "Waino" gives up a bloop single.

Yep, he used to make creepy Youtube videos talking about the Cardinals like a [expletive] psycho. Plenty of overreactions to relatively meaningless losses, strange love affairs with gritty players like Eckstein and Aaron Miles, but the worst was his video he made after Edmonds signed with the Cubs. He eventually took the video (along with all the others he made) down, but someone posted a Desipio recap of the video on the last page.

Unfortunately, text doesn't do the video justice. It's his mannerisms and overall geeky redneck appearance that make old Elias a legend. Imagine this dude:

Sounding like he is bubbling with rage as he says things like "Jim Edmonds…is officially a member of the SHITcago Cubs." and "Any time a player of Jim Edmonds’ stature goes from the Cardinals to the Cubs, I automatically hate that person as an individual, as a player and as a human being. Forever."

Let's also not forget the instance where a certain NSBB (honestly can't remember who it was) member found his phone number, called him, recorded the call, and blasted "Go Cubs Go" on the other line immediately after the Cubs had beaten the Cardinals.
